if you take the long view, the likelihood of anybody surviving an accident like that is very low. the world had its hopes up because of the rescue in chile. that was the exception.
that was also the reason that this one was downplayed. they knew those men were as good as dead when it happened. no point in getting the sheeple all aroused now, is there?
what is most sad about this is that the technology exists to send machines in to do what those men were doing and the men could operate them by remote from a safer position.
the machines are not cheap. the lives of lower caste miners are. simple economic choice for mine owners.
the same goes with mine safety technology. it costs more than they want to spend to implement.
