The Wings are the most overrated team in hockey! Death to the Wings!!! Woo hooo!!
:willy_nilly::willy_nilly:

I can absolutely see how people would be sick of the Wings, and want them to lose, trust me... but a franchise that wins that much can't be overrated. Like the Patriots...they're not overrated, they just win a lot and it pisses people off. I'm a die hard Steeler fan but I laugh when people whine that the Patriots cheat, or they're overrated.

Now the Capitals, they're overrated as a result of one player. People talk and talk about Ovenchicken but where are your wins to back that shit up??

now you are speaking like a Yankee/Montreal Canadien fan. No, the Red Wings are not hated or even sick of them. I do not think they are in the same league as the Canadiens....those people who think their team can do no wrong and are the beloved franchise of the NHL...look at the stunts they pulled in the Boston series. I am not speaking out of jealousy..I am just being observant. I hate the Yankees but respect the hell of Derek Jeter,Rivera, Posada...especially when they beat the Sox in 2003, but when we turned the tables in 2004 the Yankees took it on the chin like a great franchise......(but not A-Fraud Rodriguez)...Remember the 49ers of the 80s, do you think they were hated? What about the Islanders? Oilers? list goes on...

I didn't make that statement as if everyone on earth hates the Red Wings, but there are quite a few people on this thread who do, and I just wanted to say I can understand why (maybe we beat them, or whatever who knows)...mostly because I am like that, I tend to try to be nice to people who hate things I love :p

The Red Wings have a huge following, and they are respected by the hockey community for the most part, I think, deservedly so.

I hate the Yankees organization and what they stand for more than the team itself. Jorge Posada is one of my favorite athletes, so I know what you mean.

Pj, speak for yourself. I, and most of the Flames fanbase are sick of the Wings. :p

I should add, though, that they have a certain Original Six coolness to them so I don't hate them.

Everyone has their own reasons to love or hate a team, I can hardly even speak on that because mine tend to be jersey/game conduct related, because I am a nerd who likes pretty colors and politeness.

See, the problem I have is that I am devoted to my Bruins and could really care less as to the rest of the league. Some people think this is wrong because I do this and am ignorant about the rest of the league. I used to collect hockey cards and that was how I got to know who played for who. Soon I got wrapped up in forgetting about the hometown team; soon the Bruins were sinking and my favorite player (Ray Bourque) was ending a career without a Stanley Cup. The Bruins traded him away and suddenly I was cheering for Colorado (which also had the dreaded Patrick Roy) and it felt great that Bourque got what he wanted and he when he came to Boston and had shown the city what it was like to have the Cup, I started thinking about when the Bruins would be able to do just that: win the Cup. Every year the Boston press and "experts" have no real expectations of the Bruins because they are 4th place among three major league teams (if you do count the MLS they are indeed 4th..Patriots,Red Sox,Celtics) It is sad when you listen to sports radio and they do not talk about the Bruins and are more concerned with anything but. Hockey fans are a rare breed and the ones filling the seats at the playoff games are the true fans and also the bigwigs who can go to a game and not know a damn player...
I remember when the Patriots were the laughing stock of the NFL and they even threatened to leave the New England area and no one cared!!! Sad...but they stayed and we now have a very favorable view of this franchise. The Sox are always on the radar, because of the "curse" f*ck that! The Sox just needed to get their heads out of their a$$ and focus....two championships later!!!!

I finished....

I've gotten a lot of flak for not cheering for the Canucks because they're the last Canadian team left. I don't care where a team is based and the Canucks have less Canadians on the team than Nashville. Do NOT throw the whole Canadian team thing in my face. That doesn't fly with me. :willy_nilly:

The Patriots DID cheat to get to the Super Bowl a few seasons back. It was proven and they didn't deny it. I don't give a damn who else cheated and I sure as hell don't respect someone's reasoning is that 'well, other guys do it.' That's a sad excuse and hasn't reached the maturity level of puberty. I've never viewed the Pats the same since and when Eli Manning and the Giants handed them defeat in the Super Bowl, I celebrated. ;) The Red Wings are a very successful team and true, many hate them for being such a hard team to play against. I hate them because I used to live in Colorado and Detroit plays dirty hockey. The rivalry between the Av's and the Wings was definitely not one-sided--they both had their share of low-blows. It was that very rivalry in the '95-'96 season that turned me on to hockey. I never understood nor watched the game before then. I liked football and grew up watching alot of that and even collecting cards. When the Red Wings are defeated I will celebrate because I'm an Avalanche fan, even though I've moved from Colorado almost 3 years ago. Even though they haven't been the same team for several seasons due to injuries, retiring greats, and bad trades. That's my 2 cents.

Eh, people can fuck off with their expectations of who someone should like, really.
Don Cherry would be on you for sure, Zirc, but...well...he's Don Cherry, he'd probably hate you for being a woman lol.

I take heat for not liking the Lions, but I HATE how most Lions fans think about football. They tend to be the most idiotic, nonsensical slappies I've ever encountered...I'm starting to hate Steeler fans too but I will save that for another thread lol.

I don't feel what the Pats did was as scandalous as some people make it out to be, but that's just my opinion. I was glad the Pats lost to the Giants that year, I think I did a dance lol, but I like the Mannings.

It's fair, and that Detroit/Colorado rivalry was epic in sports, and very polarizing. That's part of what makes sports fun, I think. I don't feel anyone has to bow down to any team because they win a lot, but I would take issue with the word overrated as an assessment, is all.

Wrong...

Just like Nashville and Calgary, Vancouver has 14 players that are Canadians..
