So I'm not sure if anybody has heard, but the title gives I away. Scream 4 is finally underway. And with production, cones set photos. A lot of stuff is being kept secret at this point, but Wes Craven's upcoming fourth installment to the Scream franchise has some pretty neat pictures bein released. Nothing too serious, just a bit of eye candy to keep the fans at bay for now. Plot details are being kept under wraps at the moment, but Scream 4(Or "SCRE4M") is slated for release on April 15th, 2011. If anybody wants to check out the pics, I have one uploaded to my blog, the rest are linked in the post following the first picture. http://horrorjunkies13.blogspot.com/2010/09/new-scream-4-pictures-surface.html

I gotta say, I'm pretty excited. I love the Scream movies. I cant wait to see what they'll so with this one.

Why after this long would they make a Scream 4? They pretty much wrapped up the plot with the third movie. Will thast chick from Rosanne be back?

What chick from Rosanne? And some directors aren't in it for the money like most. Some(Like Wes Craven, James Wan, etc) do it because they love it and they want to please the fans.

Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong movie. Oh sorry she was in Scream 2.

I thought Scream 3 pretty well tied up the loose ends, what are fans asking for that they didn't already get I wonder. I admit I might go see it anyway.

Interesting... I think they should have just ended it with Scream 3. It's the Freddy/Jason complex... Why do some people think there needs to be umpteen sequels to a horror franchise?

As I know I've said before, not all franchises do it for the money. Some crews do this "umpteen sequels" thing to please the fans and to please themselves by completing a story, or continuing a story that they'd like to see continue. And this isn't even close to being the Freddy/Jason complex yet. It's only on the fourth installment, and they waited like ten years to do the fourth one.

That's the part I don't understand. Why people keep resurrecting old franchises. It's like when things are getting a bit slow, they go through a huge back catalog and try to pick out something from the 80's or 90's that could use a sequel. Or another sequel. Like, because it was a hit back then, you know a certain number of people will definitely go to see whether it's decent or not.

It's the fact that the Scream fans have been BEGGING for a fourth installment since about five minutes after the 3rd one hit theaters. I don't get why it's that difficult to understand that some movie franchises aren't in existance simply due to the monetary values. Some of them exist because somebody decided, "Hey, this would make a cool movie", and then made it, and then wanted to please their fans and have fun with the movies.

Take me for example. I LOVE movies, as most people can easily tell. If I make a movie franchise with 10+ sequels, I won't be doing it to rake in boatloads of cash, I'll be doing it for my FANS, and for the enjoyment that it gives ME, because makings movies is my dream, and nobody can take that away from me. Yes, there are some people out there who use movies as a means of feeding their family and getting rich off of sequels and resurrecting old franchises, but not everybody is like that.

Scream 4 is being done purely for the fans. It's not being resurrected just because times are slow.

Maybe it's an American thing. The Scream films aren't exactly a big deal for..... well, anyone over here.

Do you have some links or something from how you found out about people producing the Scream films wanting to do it for fans etc etc? They're not the kind of films I'd associate with that kind of image, it'd be interesting to know more about it :) not the actual film, I can guess what that's about! I mean the stuff we're talking about here.

Horror films actually are rather famous for having huge fan bases, and trying to please their fans, mainly due to the fact that horror films are more...taboo I guess you could say, in comparison to other normal moves, and not many normal people are into horror films, blood and guts, etc. SAW, Friday The 13th, Scream, they're all fan-oriented films. Hell, 99% of the SAW storylines and traps came straight from the SAW message board that I'm on. The director would actually get on the message board and talk to us fans, and ask things like, "What kind of traps do you guys make up? Who wants their trap in a movie? What would you like to see in the next SAW film?" etc. They actually valued our input and took it into consideration in each script. And I can't find a link right this instant, but I'll hunt one down.

^^^^That actually just reminded me of another point. They actually didn't wrap everything up. Horror movies, 90% of the time, don't wrap everything up. But to the normal movie-goer's eye, it seems wrapped up. To an overly-analytic, dedicated horror fan like me and a few of my friends, the smallest thing can bring about multiple sequels in a franchise, such as the door being reopened after Sydney shut it in the ending of Scream 3, among a few other small things here and there.

I might watch it online but I don't think I'll run out and see it in the cinema.

I just don't see the point of millions of sequels. I think it's better just to stop and leave something to the audience's imagination instead of tying up every single loose end.

That's why I'm telling you to go back and read the entire thread. This basic statement has already been brought up three times before you said it. I've already answered it all three times. There's no point in repeating the exact same thought and having that exact same thought answered repeatedly if it's already been answered three times before. But if you don't feel like reading, then I'll answer it yet again.

As I know I've said before, not all franchises do it for the money. In all honesty, I don't really see a point in being so negative towards a movie. It's just a movie. Movies don't harm anything or cause any damage. They're just there for our entertainment, but negativity isn't needed just because they bring on a bunch of sequels. There's always going to be a group of people who say "Stop all the damn sequels, we hate sequels!" with every movie, but the true fans, the true movie fans, those are the people who will say, "As long as the sequels don't destroy the already established plot of the franchise, bring on as many sequels as you can make". I've seen this argument so many times with the SAW franchise.

I don't think Abcinthia was actually asking at all, she was just saying that she doesn't see the point in franchises that keep churning out sequels, and your posts didn't change how she feels.

It's the internet, people like to state how their opinion even if someone else has already said they feel that way too. In fact that's sort of the whole point of a forum, lots of people talking about their opinions.
