never do a benefit for someone

Benefit as in a fundraiser for someone ill or something along those lines?

They are tough to organize and to keep everyone happy so it's a given to be uptight. It's kind of like a bride on her wedding day. Those panties stay in a wad til the groom gets to rip em off after everything is said and done. lol

haha thanks. I posted about this guy a few times who has cancer a bunch of schoolmates put on a benefit to raise money for him. they made a group on facebook and its seemed to bring nothing but drama. It's quite pathetic. I actually left at one point because it was becoming annoying only to ask to be added again.

a guy who has cancer.... it always turns into who did what and how much effort he or she put into it. when its supposed to be in support of someone it shouldnt be about anyone but the guy thats ill.

I've never had problems w/ our fundraisers...maybe I just have a better class of friends and associates??? LMFAO...umm, that sounded bad.
It was a bunch of classmates as my friend Kristen called them "acquaintances". Alot of people are just kinda dumbfounded by some of the things being posted, the lack of info being communicated to actual family and various crap being shoved in everyones face. There are a few attention whores in the mix. Well one big one LOL

ill go to a beef and beer type thing. Pay 10 bucks for unlimited food and drinking for a good cause. The food and stuff is donated and the 10.00 goes for the cause. One time I also bought a raffle ticket for 5.00 and I won 500.00 :D

they gave me the money and put it right in my pocket. at the end of the night I stuck the wad in the donate box. It was a benefit for my gf at the time, her best friends fiances sister that died of cancer.

they said it was mine to keep, but i wanted to donate it.

Hi Dana,
I'm so sorry to see something like this happening.. :(
Some people just have a need to have the spotlight all for themselves and have no clue on how to act when it comes to helping and supporting someone..
I hope that eventually everyone will come through and get together and the benefit will be of help to that person..

As a volunteer helping cancer patients, I have created a few groups, and participated on many fundraisers and the ones in FB were very successful.
If it would help, and you don't mind, I'd like to tell you what my friends and I do to avoid all the drama..

The next time you or a friend creates a group to raise money for someone:

-Make sure you write and post some rules at the beginning, stating that the group is for "fundraising only", and any comments that are not written for that purpose, will be deleted.. Then, be consistent and delete anything that doesn't belong there..

-Having two administrators, or one admin and two or three helpers working together, and deleting all the unnecessary crap will keep things orderly and sane..

-Encourage the person, -if he or she is able to participate- or a member of the family, to post often, giving thanks or updates to others..

-Make sure that there is a dedicated account made specifically for the funds..
Talk to the person or the family, and arrange that with them beforehand, so there won't be any problems later on..

-Keep everyone informed of the progress, and when it's over, post the results and give many thanks to everyone that contributed..

Hope these points will be of help...
