I'm assuming they lost a large chunk of their DVD business when this happened. Got this e-mail just a few minutes ago:

Netflix has never had the DVD division here. As far as selection goes for movies it sucks compared to what you have in the US.. Our rates have not gone up since the launch of Netflix here ( $7.99 a month ) but due to the bad selection of movies and rare addition many have lost interest and dropped the service.

I added a Proxy so it looks like I am in the US.. My selection has greatly improved. I can also make it look like I am in the UK and have their selection. I am not sure how long they will allow this but for now I have a much better service that I can warrant having Netflix with.. If this get's blocked I will be cancelling my service as VOD ( Video on Demand ) by our cable companies is just as competitive and only on new releases does it get expensive..

As for DVDs themselves they will become obsolete as did the VHS so I buy my Bluerays with DVDs included.. I figure they will continue to make players for them for at least 10 more years while the discs might be gone in 3.

If we all think Netflix is high wait until the Movie / TV industry have us locked into streaming online only.. $7.99 a month will have been cheap compared to $7.99 ea play of a movie stream..

These prices will start for charges on or after September 1, 2011.

if this is true does that mean the are going to retro charge 4.99 all the way back to Sept. 1 2011?
