My fiance' and I quit smoking. Our last day of smoking was Friday 2/10. We were both avid smokers 1 to 1.5 packs a day each. We decided to go "cold turkey" and tough it out over the week-end... But in the last 6 days we have cheated a few times, like both taking 2 hits each to calm us down. I'm ok with this as long as we don't start up again. We talked about going on the patch, but the physical addiction to nicotine is easily kicked (it's over in 3-4 days) its the habit and pychological addiction that is the hardest to beat, and I don't want to be dependant on nicotine.
I want to know if anyone has any tips or suggestions to help us kick this fucking nasty habit that we love so damned much. And for all you non-smokers out there that say "just don't smoke" or some other smart ass comment, remember, it would be like me telling you to just not eat... the hunger (cravings) will overcome your will power...

Help!

i told myself i was going to quit smoking....but i still haven't...i think gum would probably help tremendously, and just trying to keep your mind off of it.

Well we have gum and lolly pops and such... it does help, but dayum it's hard to break that habit of reaching for that next smoke. It's like when I was smoking and I had a cig in my mouth and I would still reach for another one to light up, forgetting I had one lit already....

Get into something qucik when the temtation strikes.

Doesn't matter what it is, as long as it stops you from lighting up. Here in California it's easy, because smoking is illegal in any building besides your home.

Go tinker with the car,
Play a game
Pick a fun thing to argue about
Do 25 pushups (good one)

You've already made it through the hardest part. Now you just have to find something to fill the time you used to fill with smoker.

Good luck to you and your lady mang. You'll both be glad you did it.

My dad was an avid smoker for as long as i remember. Then my sister got pregnent with his first grandchild and he decided he didn't want it anywhere around him. He never smoked in the house, but sometime he would smell of smoke. So he decided to quit. He went on the patch i believe, and it worked well for him. He didn't smoke for a long time until his brother got killed tragically, he picked it back up a bit. But i rarely see him smoke anymore.

So i guess the reason it worked for him is because he had good motivation to quit, and the patch apparently helped also. Good luck

When my dad was diagnosed with MS, he decided to quit for health reasons, he went "cold turkey" after 25+ years of smoking 1-1.5 packs a day, he said he just had to stay busy and occupied, he use to keep clicking pens with him at all times and when he felt the need (more out of habit to have a cigarette in his hand) he would reach for his pen and start clicking, as crazy as it sounds he quit after that many years, no gum, no patches, no help what so ever and hasn't had a cigarette in almost 6 years.

Good Luck!
That is a really good suggestion when I was quitting I kinda did the same thing except if I was outta gum I would chew the hell out of a pen....kept my mind off of it I guess.

yeah i figured that. but try this.

get some mouthwash and swish it in your mouth for a minute or so and then have a cigarette. that was a new study that helped people quit cause the taste of the cigarette is so bad after doing that. try it. who knows what will happen

I'll try it, but the hardest time I have is in the car or at work.... damn the tabacco industry and their addictive product....

Tim i read somewhere that in cigars its the paper lining that causes the addiction. I've seen people take the lining out and repack the tobacco to ween themselves out of smoking.

YOU know that was really un called for i was told if you cant tolerate cig smoke ( since what you( the smoker ) blow out is worse then what you take in ) it could be just as bad ..... and since my chest does hurt alot when i couch i was just wondering seeing this is the topic of this thread :fu :fu
