yeah, I argued for an hour before I got that, lol
Actually, there was one time I did get successful
I bought a tv, it was no good for where I wanted to have it. Took it back and they tried fobbing me off saying that as I had opened the box, they had to deduct £12 from the cost of the tv that I paid.
Well, I argued this too - I pointed out that if I had been given given any literature that they are entitled to take £12 from the cost of what I paid, then fair enough. The manager argued I wasn't having my money back, despite me explaining no-one told me that I wouldn't be able to take it out of the box to try it out!!! I asked how am I supposed to know if it worked by leaving it in the box? How laughable was that?
In the end, I told him I am phoning my solicitor - well, I made a call, as he phoned his head office.
By this time, it was 5o minutes after I had gone in there with the tv.
There is nothing to say they are allowed to deduct any money from an item returned, so they knew they were on a no win. Plus, I pointed out to them in the shop that I hadn't been asked if i had seen a notice re returning opened goods either, when I bought it, so my attention hadn't been drawn to it.
I got my full amount back eventually and told them I will be letting everyone know, what they try to get away with and how bad they are with customers.
I'd forgotten about that. LOL
Good for you anyway - sometimes it does pay to stand ya ground.
