Name brand/generic brand

Is it better to buy name brand or a generic brand? Buying name a brand or a generic brand is a personal preference.
I buy generic brand items on things I do not have a personal preference towards, such as aluminum foil, trash bags, and sandwich bags. I also buy generic brand pretzels, eggs, and milk.
My husband gets aggravated when I dont buy name brand milk as to when I buy the store brand milk. He prefers that I buy Coleman but I always buy the Wal Mart brand. Milk is milk to me......it all comes from a cow.
Anyhow....I was just wondering how many of you buy more name brand or how many of you stick with the store brand/generic stuff

I buy name brand when it comes to lotions, vitamins, skin care stuff, and yeah even trash bags... cuz I had bad experience with the fake crap! For a few extra bucks, its better to have all that good stuff in the lotion and know its working....and to know all your garbage isnt gonna poke thru.
Foil... I could care less about. But Sarran wrap...NEVER buy the generic... thats a warning.

I buy both generic and name brand. Some of the generic is just as good as the other stuff...but some name brand things are better.

When it comes to name brand medicine, ie. Tylenol, Bayer, Dimatap.... the generic brands are exactly the same... but much cheaper... The FDA holds them to the same standard and require them to use the exact same ingredients. So save yourself big bucks and go with the CVS or Walgreens knock off

stockings...stockings are another one where you should just buy the name brand, b/c generic are just so damn cheap!!

It depends on the product. I'm all about saving some cash, but not at the expense of getting poor quality. A lot of the Wal-Mart Great Value brands are made by the same companies putting out the higher priced items right beside them on the shelves. You can buy Merita bread or Great value bread (made by Merita) thats the price they pay for the privilege of doing business with Wal-Mart.

It all depends on whether or not payday had just happened Most of the time, I buy name brand crap because it makes me feel better regardless if it is the same or not. Its all about how you feel when you buy something, right?

I buy a mix I guess, but I wont compromise on some things because its cheaper ,its just about quality I guess

some things- most personal stuff- shampoos/lotions/etc. i wont buy generic... others, as long as they dont fall apart- i'll buy them generic


target actually has the best generic brands that i've come across. so most of that stuff i trust, and i'll buy

Its all about packaging. If they spruced up the looks a little, people would buy a lot more generic stuff. I bet if you did a test and put Brand A in a generic bottle and Generic B in a Brand A bottle, no one could tell.

We always buy the generic malt-o-meal brand cereal they sell at walmart in the huge bags, they sell so much more and they are only like $3-$4 a bag...i don't eat cereal so that is matt's preference. Also we buy generic brand dishwashing soap, laundry detergent (though I only buy Arm and Hammer and Purex, they are both super cheap and work just as good as tide). Also milk, eggs, and juice. I will not buy generic bread or meat or frozen entrees or shampoo. Body wash, I'll buy whatever smells good, no matter the brand..hmm yeah that's about it i think. Oh yeah and usually if I'm buying generic it's walmarts Great Value, never ever buy generic shit from other stores.
