nail clipping...(pain!!)

while trying to cut my finger nails shorter, I cut too close on my index finger and it has ballooned up (swollen?) and have tried to get the nail to be smaller to no avail. I didn't notice a hangnail inside the nail canal but my finger is tender as all hell, and I have used hydro peroxide to make sure it isn't infected...should I let the nail grow out? or should I go see my manicurist and see if she can help ?

I wish my husband would clip his nails more often....sometimes his nails get longer than mine! Of course I'm so damn impatient I use my fingernails as tools to take staples out and stuff......
