Why is it which ever line I get in to checkout at the store suddenly goes into slow motion while all the other lines seem to move faster?

Worse here if they need to use a check or aging Matilda who knows she has exact change in the bottom of her purse that looks like an army duffle bag.
Yeah the change one always gets me, this one time this old woman on the bus gets on and she asks for her ticket, costs a pound or so as they don't get on the bus free before 9.30 , anyway she gives him a fiver and he asks if she has anything less. 5 minutes later we're still there while she's counting out a pound.
As soon as she moves from the front of the bus I say to the driver "I bet you wish you'd taken the fiver now". He solemny agreed.
