and a lot of rappers in music today. I was bored and being the insomniac I am. I was reading an article on an artist Jay-Z recently signed onto his new label imprint. They went off on a tangeant about him being the best rapper alive and even though I know no one would probably read it i decided to write up why I thought this wasn't so...

Bare with me...

Jigga is NOT the Greatest Rapper Alive!

Sorry to burst alotta mainstream followers bubbles…Here’s my take…
Lemme have your attention for a second. Everyone out there that grew up on hip hop like me. WHY is Jay-Z labeled the best rapper alive? He surely doesn’t rap like he used to. In my opinion an emcee doesn’t compromise his style for current trends. A million rappers in the mainstream rap are like Jigga.

Just because he’s maintained his commercial status through the new millennium doesn’t make him the illest. He had a great flow from early days with Original Flow and Jaz-O up through The Dynasty, but somewhere he started getting lazy with his rhyming, then all of a sudden everyone started sounding the same.

I’m not sure what’s appealing about the slow drawn out rap or the fact that sometimes lines in songs don’t even rhyme anymore (This goes for a lotta rappers). I think if your going to label someone great there needs to be consistency.

I’m in no way hating on Jay-z because that would make me a hypocrite when I download such songs as Empire State Of Mind, I just think the definition of GREAT needs to be retooled. I guess that’s why i’ve been listening to a lot of underground and 80s-90s outside the club.
