Gotta nitpick on you.

Ins cos loose money when people are sick. They make money on the healthy. It's in everyone's best (financial) interest that you stay healthy.

Oh, we get a choice not to get sick? Guess I better kick the wife up the arse and tell her to stop being ill :smiley24:

I think his point is that many people have health issues that they do have control over. Being overweight, having high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc. Those are things we can control. Even diabetes in many is preventable if people eat right. There is a Dr. based out of I believe the University of Kentucky that claims with a very regimented diet he has been able to get most diabetic patients off of insulin.

Speaking personally,, I am overweight, eat the wrong foods, drink booze more than I should, have high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. I have what is similar to polyctheria vera which is a blood problem. In short I am gonna die of a heart attack or a stroke if I stay the same.

But I go thru a routine every few years where I get fed up and do something about it. Walking, exercise, eating better. My BP is lower now but still on pills. I need to probably get to an unrealistic weight to get off those pills but I will see what I can do. My cholesterol came down and the threat of having to go on pills has been put off if I can maintain what I am doing I should be able to continue without them.

So there are some things where our health is in our hands.

I understand that. My lifestyle to a certain extent is in my hands. However, the tax I pay on alcohol and tobacco more than compensates for that. Alcohol and tobacco tax in my country pays the entire cost of the NHS several times over, I'm such a patriotic bastard! :D;)
