Just reading about Adelaide in Bill Bryson's book 'Down under'.
Is it as nice as he says it is?

Yeah, it's a great place to live. Smallish population, round one and a half million. Great beaches, great countryside. Summer weather from 30 degrees celcius to 40 degrees. Some people from bigger places think it's a little slow, but I think it's relative to how you live your life. That said, Adelaide is, unfortunately, per capita,one of the Serial Killer capitals of the World.

He says that you have big parks all around the city. Lots of greenery before you hit the desert. Must be good!!!!

Yeah parks completely surround the city centre. It's on the South coast, so the beaches are sweet. It's the wine capital of Australia. Housing is still relativley affordable and the people are a reasonably tolerant bunch.

Great pictures and a nice looking family you've got there.:clap Wine capital of Australia you say? Well I've done the Hunter valley and that was pretty awesome so if it's better than that I might have to get down there next time I'm over!

The Barossa is like the Shiraz and Cabernet sauvignon capital of the world....They do a couple of botrytis, but the good desserts come from the McClaren Vale region............

You can get nicely tanked for free doing the rounds in any of the regions without any pressure to buy. But you probably will take some home when you taste how good they are. One warning though, Adelaide is predominately a red wine region. There are a few good Chardonnays and Sav Blancs, but they are rare....Having said that, even bad Adelaide wines beat good wines from practically anywhere.....

Haha! Thats what we did in the Hunter Valley, had a big coach trip round a dozen or so wineries and got tanked up on the samples, bought a 1 and a half litre bottle though to drink between the wineries on the coach, was an awesome day out!

It's a great day really. Good wine, good company ( hopefully ) , and lovely country side. You can't beat it.
