My friend believes that being a pedophile and being gay are the same thing...

Actually ... I wonder if those religious "sins" and "rules" were more made because of the times. Like eating pork ... since pork is such a dangerous meat if not preserved properly (as in no refrigeration).

I believe that makes a lot of sense. Most religious sins or rules are extremely old and don't follow with today's world. Religion is just something people made up to try to control other people, but then some people actually took it seriously and have ever since.

My friends and I were sitting at lunch and some how we got started on whether being gay was right or wrong. My friend thinks it's downright wrong and utterly gross, and hates it. He said that being gay and being a pedophile are the exact same thing... I see why he would think being gay is wrong since he is a strong believing Christian, but still I just don't see how he can think being gay and being a pedophile are the same thing. Yes they are both sexual preferences of some kind, but so is being heterosexual or bisexual and he doesn't think any of those are the same thing. I don't understand the logic in his argument.

Unfortunately, there are people out there who are presented with false information...sometimes that information only helps aid in their current opinion. If he thinks being gay is wrong and someone also tells him that being a pedophile is just as bad, he may use it to further prove his point that being gay is wrong.

It's just a sad thing to think that someone actually feels that way...I can firmly say that he does not have any logic other than what he perceives as logical.

Well that's just absurd. This reminds me of a remark one of my friends (well not so much a friend as she was just a person I knew) in my culinary class. I was talking about one of my favorite teachers who was really cool and was gay. I informed her that I was friends with the teacher on facebook and we talked a lot. She replied (in a totally serious demeanor) "Eww your friends with a gay man on facebook and you talk to him? That is disgusting, you know he probably masturbates to you and is going to like rape you or something." I replied "Just because someone is gay doesn't mean they are a pervert..."

And this is true and something many people need to grasp. Gay people don't equal rapist pedophiles. They are just attracted to people of the same gender.
