Could be a few things. I've gotten similar bruising from a stress fracture, dropping something on my foot, re-fracturing old injury, being stepped on, dislocation...

You didn't have any trauma that you recall though?

PD acttually had a good idea also.

Since it is on the mend, I would reccomend rest, ice(15min on, 15 off), compression(wrap it), and elevation... I would call your Dr and tell them what's going on, when you first noticed it etc, so it is on file and see if he wants to examine it.

ahhh.....good ol RICE.,,,,the sportspersons best/fave acronym:thumbup

ow. Did you have different shoes on than usual? You could have cramped and bruised the tendons/nerves. Get some Arnica cream. In your work, it wouldnt hurt to carry it around with you.

The people I work for love that stuff. I don't have any myself but I think I'll pick some up the next time I go grocery shopping.

I've been wearing the same work boots for months. Perhaps I should get some insoles.

Once your foot drops off, if you chop a bit more off you can have a pegleg. That would be totally cool but may make looking after the horses a bit troublesome.

Lol, I don't have a doctor. :ninja :p Besides, I think doctors have a lot more necessary things to look after than some old foot cramp. It felt a lot better today anyway. More stiff than sore. I'm also not going to take time off work. I'm old school. I suck it up, buttercup. :p

I didn't say take time off work, :D pretty horses man!

I think you got a stress fracture presonally, and in the foot... not much the doc can do for it actually. Mine just said use R.I.C.E and suck it up. So that's what I am doing.

Increase eating foods that promotte bone health (veg included:p) and rest it when you can, massage could be beneficial too. I've got openings ;)

Juz an added bit of info. Ice is only applicable within 24 hours after an injury. This is a basic rule. After that span of time, one needs to promote circulation hence it should already shift to warm compress. Rationale: heat has a vasodilation effect (increase in size of blood vessels ) hence increasing blood flow to promote healing.

With bruising- that signifies leaking of blood in the tissues and trauma. After 24 hours that becomes old blood hence icing is no longer effective as that brings about constriction ( decreasing size of blood vessels) Of course, the suggestion about rest, elevation, compression still holds true.

Be careful with massage when there is some bruising or even with a probable fracture. It can aggravate the injury with manipulation or a much worse scenario : a clot can be dislodged which can be deadly if it gets floated to a major organ like your lungs etc.

Injury was noticed yesterday, it's still within 24 hours. I still find ice helpful after injury, and it's always been suggested to me and m clients by physicians... 15 mins max, generally to numb and diffuse pain in the area. My athletes alternate heat and ice compression 10-15 mins of each.

I suppose I should of clarified and said light massage in the affected area, not directly on it... just to promote blood flow to heal. After 3-4 days massage on the area is fine. Common sense to whoever does your regular massages.

Stress fracture? Seriously? But if it was a fracture wouldn't there be more pain? It really only hurt Monday evening when it first happened and now the pain is all but gone. Oh, and no ice for my feet. I have enough issues with cold feet without adding to the problem. :p My foot can be its own ice. :p

Thanks for all the advice but I really just started this thread to whine. :ninja :p grin.png

I don't think "priceless" would come close to describing the fete... It's over used, but Epic comes to mind in regards to something like that. At Halloween, we should all buy fake, amputated feet to send him at Christmas...

Mine, both times, was just a bruise that took forever t go away... i could walk on it, etc, as normal... but it was constant dull, annoying pain.

1st time around I had it looked at after a few days, and the doc confirmed I had fractured my 5th metatarsal. All he did was confirm what I knew :24:

2nd time around, I didn't bother... just waiting for it to heal so i can fracture it again later.:willy_nilly:

You know, it would be really stupid if this was a stress fracture. Last June I had a horse jump, not step, jump on my foot (same foot, actually). I was thinking "Yay! Broken foot!" but all I got out of the ordeal was a sore foot with a bruise that didn't amount to much. And then now I'm just walking around and I get a fracture? Not fair! :willy_nilly:
