I'm pretty cut up at the moment as sadly I had to have my dog put to sleep yesterday. For those of you who don't know, I had a retired greyhound who I rescued from being shot about 10 years ago. As you can imagine it was very upsetting as I've had her for most of my adult life. I'm just glad I was able to give her a good life and she was very old for a greyhound, nearly 14. It really feels like losing a close family member or friend.:(

Re: My Dod Died

sorry peter :( my condolences.
[SIZE=+1]Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Ah, that's beautiful, you've got me blubbering again now. I would give you some rep for that but apparently I've got to spread the love around first.

Re: My Dod Died

Someone sent me that poem when my kittens were kidnapped, and I wasn't sure if they were dead or alive...it helped me come to terms with it and be at peace with the situation.

Re: My Dod Died

I am so sorry for your loss. When my dog died that I had for 13 yrs, I took a bereavement day from work. I was that upset.
And that poem is so beautiful. My aunt had told me about a poem called the Rainbow Bridge but I had never read it before.

Re: My Dod Died

I'm sorry for your loss. I still think about the dog I had put to sleep due to illness almost two years ago. While it hurts me to think about her sometimes, I have many happy memories which lessen the pain. I hope you feel better as time goes on.

Re: My Dod Died

I'm sorry for your loss. I've got two dogs and the eldest is only four and I already feel like if something happened to either of them I would be devistated. People think I'm insane, but it's really hard to understand that connection you get with a dog unless you have one yourself. Again, sorry for your loss.

sorry but it sounds like if you wern't there your dog wouldn't have lived that long at all and its such a special thing to save an animals life like that, you gave her the best life she could have and if its true that the afterlife it ment to be better then thats one lucky dog! by the way that was a lovely piece BreakfastSurreal
