Forget about the presets, just leave it on auto. All the presets do in a P & S basically is change the color temperature.

'S' or 'TV' which is shutter priority, lets you decide the shutter speed whilst the camera then decides the aperture. 'AV' or 'A' is the same but you decided the aperture and the camera decides the shutter speed to give you the correct exposure.

'P' (Program auto) is a more manual version of Auto. Its allows you to change the ISO, shutter speed or aperture whilst the camera decides what the opposite should be.
Neither change the colour balance/white balance unless you do it yourself or you don't set it right. If you are shooting in daylight on Tungsten WB, then you will have a blue colour cast. The white balance/colour temp is only going to change if you have your camera completely on Auto.

I know about all that stuff. Maybe I misunderstood her. I thought she was talking about the stuff on page 23 & 24 in the manual.

Looks like its only some of the 'SCN modes' that change the WB/Colour temp automatically. Looks the P,S and M don't (except A as the camera determines everything) UNLESS you change it yourself.
It's the " SCN " modes I was talking about. When I initially posted what I did I assumed it would be along the same lines as a Canon P & S. Apparently it isn't. It's no surprise I didn't know what I was talking about.... it's a Kodak. :D My first digital was a Kodak and I owned it for all of an hour if that. I took it back to the store and swapped it for Canon. :) Man that's a long time ago.
