About a year or so ago, my dad was diagnosed by his doctor with what's called pre-diabetes. This means that he was on the verge of ending up with full-blown diabetes.

Since then, my father has taken all the necessary steps to decrease the chances of becoming diabetic. He's eating better and goes out for walks around the neighborhood almost every day.

I'm glad he's taking this seriously.

The reason he's taking this so seriously is because he knows some people who have diabetes and have suffered as a result. One guy he knows had his leg amputated a few years ago due to complications from his diabetes. And another guy he's friendly with is going to be completely blind in the future because of his diabetes.

I wish everyone who's at risk of getting diabetes would take it as seriously as my dad has.

:O I did not even know you can get amputations because of Diabetes. I should really consider looking more into this disease and looking at ways to prevent it.

The ravages of diabetes are many. Blindness and amputations are just part of it.

I know a man that lost both his feet..a little at a time during the last few years of his life..he lived to be 90 though he stayed active in spite of it.

Not sure you can prevent it..some are more apt to get it..but you can slow down the progression as his dad is doing.
The people that suffer the most are young people..as it really messes you up over time
