Personally I don't understand how people don't get the difference. I'm just guessing that none of you who are straight ever had to struggle w/ your sexuality and worry about the response from your parents when they find out. I have one dear friend who was disowned by his father when he came out. Coming out is a big deal for gays, whether you understand it or not.
:homo::nod: Yeah what she said!!!

The reason straight people don't need a coming out party, is for the simple fact that society automatically assumes you are straight given no other facts. So since everyone is assumed straight, a coming out party would let their friends and family know otherwise.

I find it curious that the straight community can be proud of their sexuality and display it publicly anytime they want, but when a gay individual does, he's seen as flaunting it. :dunno:

Not me

I don't find it becoming for anybody to display it

Except a couple of women

Now THAT is HOT :nod::D:thumbup

I dont want gays to feel like anyone treats them different because of their sexuality so I'm throwing this, my coming out as straight party! Thats right! I'm a man and I like pussy! Fuck whether I've found a loving partner who I will spend the rest of my years with, I like fucking pussy and this should be celebrated! I've never actually told anyone I'm straight before so because I am now, you should all congratulate me and tell me how wonderful it is that I like vaginas!:thumbup

I'm sorry but I am Never Coming out of the closet..

NOT until that whole fucken pussy IS ALL EATEN AND ITS ALL GONE, NO EVIDENCE LEFT BEHIND.. :D:24:

If gays were never in the closet then they wouldnt have these problems...so why hide it to start with..makes no sense.
But anyway..I dont care if someone is gay,but I dont care for the ones that make a big production out of it..."its hip to be gay" type...gay this gay that bullshit..some want to be gay just for a statement to merely be different..they then whine when someone treats them differently.....who would have guessed...they just need to go about their daily business, nobody gives a shit anyway unless they are the "in your face gays"

Let's start with your first statement...

Like I said earlier, all people are considered straight until otherwise shown different. So are you saying that kids/teens should have been open about their feelings the second they started experiencing it? Because that makes perfect sense to me... seeing how most people/parents are completely understanding. Hell, their school friends would completely accept them without any judgment. You are completely right, society doesn't force these kids to hide their feelings, they are the only ones to blame for being in the closet in the first place. :sarcasm

I always love people that talk about "in your face" gays. You can usually tell that these people have absolutely NO friends or loved ones that are homosexual. These statements are typical stereo types personified. You encounter homosexuals every day, every day, yet when was the last time you personally experienced an in your face encounter?

I find it contradictory in all honesty....they (for the most part) want to be treated equally and NOT made a fuss of yet have pride parades, mardi gras and the likes advertising their sexuality.

All my gay friends find these things over the top too (and believe me, I have LOTS of gay friends).....its for flaunt factor only.

but I DO love to watch Mardi Gras at the Cross. Its hilarious, colourful and fun, and some of the "names" they come up with are :24:

I liked "Maxi Pad" the best.

As a liberal society parents and friends are pretty accepting...may have not been the case 20 years ago,but for the most part, people dont frown on gay like a couple decades back..of course they are always a few diehards that dont adjust with the times..I can see where it would be a problem given a backwoods environment but in general there usually isnt a problem

I do know some gays...some you wouldnt know unless you asked, others however are always talking about it..this is what I refer to as in the face gays...this becomes the center of their life while the rest of the life revolves around the point they are gay..they look for ways to bring it up and take every opportunity.
This is more of a social statement rather than a common sharing of ones inner self IMO

Id like to hear your thoughts on this too since you were the first one to congratulate Peter when he made the thread, and now you seem to agree with Tasha whole heartedly that what Peter said isnt something that should be joked about.

I guess I'm not the only one to have thought about the way he wrote it "My Coming Out" party or whatever... and thought something else.

And whites attack black and blacks attack whites and radical Muslims attack Christians and the beat goes on.
The above is also not as bad as it was 20 years ago with exception of radical islam, but we cant let it change our lives.
You listed some isolated cases, while considering the gay population of today and the existence of it openness given the frequency of attacks, they are in more apt to die from an auto accident than a hate attack

And it's ALL wrong...but nobody thinks black people are "flaunting" their race. And I picked the first few names that came up in a Google search (aside from Matthew Shephard, of course, b/c he automatically comes to mind)...and call me stupid, but I think 1 name is too much.

It's a shame some of you people can't understand things like this. I'm personally glad that I have a mom that would accept me either way. I have friends who are not so lucky.

I was being sarcastic. If you want my thoughts read here. Clicky... No need to jump to conclusions Audra. :) My thoughts stem from first hand experience with Gays. If you want to jump on my case for that then so be it. :)

Just out of curiosity how many gays do you know?

While one death is to many...how many in the closet that really aren't living?..People just need to be who they are and the heck with what people think, but that also comes with one just being ones self rather than their life revolving around being gay,,,this would be the flaunting you speak of.
Also this same flaunting as you refereed to regarding race can be the very spark for violence that may have not otherwise existed, harmony of coexistence is dependent upon the very inner peer within

I just googled the name and see he killed himself after he was filmed kissing another bloke, and it was put on the internet....I remember that story.

As sad as that is....(and I see also he was a high school kid, so much more susceptible to bullying no matter what) He obviously didnt accept his sexuality either if he was that affected and embarressed by it to take his own life...

We need to accept that others WONT accept our lifestyle choices sometimes and deal with it....(and I know, easier said than done) but if we choose to live an "alternative" lifestyle than whats considered the "norm" thats the price we pay.

and that goes for gays, hippies, druggies, swingers, cheaters, drop outs and anyone else you care to name.
