My Big Brown Stick

To keep something closed?..

Nope - you were more along the right lines with 'open' ;) Extra clue, it's in the office where I use it. Some people were bemused at its construction but they understand the reasons why. It's a hollow cardboard tube (was a wrapping paper tube) surrounded by some extra cardboard at the top for a 'handle' and completely wrapped in packing tape.

Bear in mind Thornirnee's correct guess (almost completely) of what was written on it too. Last word and 'G' were correct.

Well if it is not to prop something open is it to keep something from being opened?

My grandmother puts a big stick behind her sliding glass door so that it can't be open.

My other guess: Is it a rainstick?

Nope

It's for waving at those pesky kids when they walk on your lawn. char124.png

Nope
