I have a ASUS A8N-E mobo that I need drivers for and I misplaced the original disk. I went to their site but can't seem to find what I need and hope one of you wizards can help me pin 'em down.

I've done a clean install on an XP system for my niece and am missing " Network Adapters " in the device manager so I can't log onto the internet.

I also have a bunch of yellow question marks beside these categories...

( I assume a bunch of these would get looked after once I update windows ??? )

- Multimedia Audio Controller
- other PCI bridge device
- PCI memory controller
- SM Bus Controller
- Unknown Device
- Video Controller
- Video Controller ( VGA Compattible )

Unfortunately the link doesn't take me to the area I wanted to show you. It takes me back to what you gave me. In any event there's a pile of drivers there and it leaves me confused.

Whoa, do you know the graphics card that is installed on your pc?

The reason I got a bit cranky is because I asked for help in this thread and so far three people answered. Poop is the only one to be of any real assistance so far. DA suggested I use a program that scoured the net when I clearly indicated I can't access it. Then you come in and tell me I only need the most up to date ones. Tuffy wouldn't it be safe to assume I know that? Then you ask me if I know what graphics card? My answer to that right now is no but what I do know is once I do know those won't be an issue when I update the clean install of XP... which I also mentioned. What I really need help with is identifying exactly what drivers I need to get my totally missing Network Adapters installed so I can access the net. When I went to the same site Poop suggested both before and after I can't figure out EXACTLY which ones I need.

Please people make no mistake that I'm asking for help and appreciate valid replies. Cluttering up a thread solves nothing. Reading and paying attention to peoples posts just like Poop did would be a great start.

I can't log on to the internet with that computer.

Poop knows what he's doing so with any luck he'll help me when he gets his ass outa the rack in the morning.

Here are the 2 basic driver you need.
Chipset driver(contains buncha stuff)
asusdriver1.jpg

Audio driver
asusdriver2.jpg

There is some other stuff under the utilities tab but they are not vital to the basic function of the board.

You're gonna have to download this stuff on your computer and sneakernet them to your niece's computer. I like thumb drives but you could burn them onto a cd if necessary.

I didn't mean whoa as in 'calm down' I meant "I didn't read it scenario" as in me, not you. I'm on the case as in I am trying to download manual

Thanks for the helpful info Poop.

I want to make sure this is solid before I give it back to my niece so will they update via Windows Update or can you point them out if they won't?

I have a thumb drive and that's what I used for a few other things so it will be used here as well.

You know you got them all right if you goto control panel->system->hardware->device manager and see no yellow alert symbols next to any device listed.

I didn't screw it up but I didn't get it done either. I give up.................. I'll run it into the shop tomorrow and bite the bullet for the few bucks it's gunna cost cuz I'm done pulling what little hair I have left out.

Poop this was bloody aggravating. I built this thing about 5 years ago, did a clean install a bunch of times and never did I have to run the mobo install disk except for the first time. I threw the bloody disk away within the last 6 months cuz I thought I would never need it again.

At least when I give it back to her it will be clean, up and running with a new 450 watt power supply, 250 gig H/D , a much better video card and 4 megs of RAM. I had that stuff laying around and I'm glad I didn't chuck it.... wonder of wonders That will make the little munchkin happy.

I solved the problem the easy way and got her Windows 7. Did the clean install, updated the bloody thing and finished by taking it to her house and man was she a happy kid. Deep down inside she wanted W7 cuz it's the latest and greatest. Her friends all had it and now she's one of them. :thumbup

Ahhh man.... Guy I keep telling you not to be afraid to call me if you have these types of issues.. :(

From past experience I could have told you that the first driver you needed to update would have been the other PCI Bridge device. It controls almost everything on your MOBO that Windows sees.. From there all you had to do was go to the Asus Web site and Pick up the latest Driver for Network Adapters which was the Unknown Device showing in your Device Manager.. But Fixing PCI Bridge device could have automatically found the driver for you..

Sorry I don't always log on at the right time and check all the roll down of threads.. :mad

All is good I guess with Windows 7 but keep that in mind..

Cheers buddy..
