As of last year I started university, which was terrifying. One of my first courses was Philosophy - Ethics in Communication. Basically, I am hoping that once out of university I will become somewhat of a communication professional, preferably in Advertising or Public Relations.

An interesting topic came up that I think about nearly every day. It was interesting to see the responses given. So I'm curious about those of the OTz group.

Is there a company, political party, religious group etc that you would not feel comfortable promoting? Why? What would you feel comfortable doing?

Considering my religious background and my political leanings there are many groups I would not feel comfortable promoting. Hypocresy (which I probably misspelled) is difficult for me to deal with in my life. If I say I believe something it would be uncomfortable for me to support a position counter to my beliefs.

What if money was a factor? Say you were offered a million dollars to promote the Jewish religion, would you put your personal ethics aside to know that you could earn so much money? Do you have a monetary value that you would do almost anything for?

That is an interesting question as to where the monetary sum effects your decision. I am not sure where that figure is that I would abandon my beliefs for financial gain.

Personally I could not promote anything to do with the tobacco industry. I hate smoking and the idea of helping a company like that Ames me shudder. There were a lot of people in my tutorial that said they would have no moral dilemmas promoting companies that sell cigarettes but would not work for fast food chains. I just don't understand how some peoples minds work.

I don't find anything wrong with smoking provided the smoke is let off the right outlet!

I think my problem with smoking is having lost and almost lose multiple family members to smoking related diseases. I could not promote something that hurt my family.

Where would you draw the line?

sorry to hear that. I have been smoking for the last 45 years and the only problem I ever felt with it is loss of stamina and smokers cough, however, my recent chest xray showed that I am heading towards Bronchitis.
Thank goodness I don't booze. My younger brother did both smoking and boozing and popped off in his early 40's. Who can I blame? Smoking or Booze?

I wont promote something I dont believe in.
Why?
As it would make me part of the problem.

LOL!
And yet you did support and promote legalized torture carried out during the G W Bush administration.
So, by your own exclamation, you believe in torture.

Shocking, just shocking I tell you!!

I do not support the prosecution of Bush as water boarding was legal at the time.
I can not support prosecuting someone for something that was legal at the time...as such would be an illegal prosecution...I do not support illegal prosecutions....As this would be false imprisonment which could also be considered torture.;)

You've posted that before, but it's non responsive to your arguments in the past for your support of the 'legalized' torture that occurred during the Bush administration.
His 'law' was not legal and was later changed.
All you are claiming now is that crimes against humanity can be excused, like the Holocaust.
And you have posted at this forum you wouldn't prosecute those that partake in such obsenities (like murder, torture, genocide) as long as laws had existed at one time to allow those events.

Amazing how your logic for supporting a US President that partook in immoral and inhuman behavior also leads you to support one of history's all time inhuman monsters.....which explains the emails you sent me about Hitler.

Interesting topic, this thread........morality.
Hope to see one about hypocrisy.

Straight up answer, yes or no.
Would you support prosecuting Hitler ( if alive, of course ) for the Holocaust even though his actions fell under the law of Germany at that time?

( Think hard :D )
