A fitting thread for Labor Day weekend. I've been saying this for years. It's good to see someone with some credibility like Mike Rowe of Discovery Channel's "Dirty Jobs" to bring this issue to the public.

We have discounted the skilled trades in American society in favor of the college degree. College degrees are good and necessary, but steel bridges aren't welded and assembled by the IT guy or the MBA sitting in an office building. The engineer might design the bridge, but he can't build it - skilled tradesmen do.

reminds me of my thread about my brother and his carpentry....and as so many have echoed that craftsman are a dying breed...
