I went to see it. I am not a Michael Moore lover or follower or whatever.

I don't buy into everything he says. I am not one to follow blindly.

Having said that, this movie was really good. Funny in a lot of parts if you like irony.

The one thing I REALLY liked about this movie is how calm he seems throughout the whole thing. In his other movies he seems to always have those parts where he kind of goes overboard, and on this one he pulls some pranks, but doesn't really go overboard.

That and it taught that certain things I never paid attention to were more important than I thought in the whole scheme of things...like who is running what companies. Never bothered to keep track.

Also a lot of things done and said in this movie - not by moore, but by other people of their own accord and not just edited to look bad - a lot of those things made me ANGRY. to the point where I cried because I can't stand the injustice that is allowed to go on in the world while all us apathetic sheep just live and consume.

ok so I know a lot of you will think I am a nut, but please go see it.

PLEASE go see it!

i think its so funnyhow he can make a movie about capitalism, when he himself has made millions by doing stuff just like this.

hmmm..is it irony or "hello kettle".

i'm not giving that fucker a dime, he actually believes that the cuban health care system is better than the one we have in the U.S.

i thought this exact same thing until i went to see the movie

he isn't talking about everyday capitalism. he is talking specifically about bank regulations that were lifted which allowed things like home foreclosures, reverse mortgages, etc. to happen

he also talks about the bailout and all the politics that went with that.

I'll watch the public library copy when it arrives, just for you.

It's time you started caring again. This admin is trying to break this system and everyone needs to get educated so that we keep some symblance of America with the replacement system. Who knows? Maybe we can even get closer to the founding fathers' ideal view rather than this crap that's building in Washington.

eta: Did Moore point out how significant GE is in almost every facet of Obama's domestic support?

I've heard a few things about it that I didn't know.

Like how corporations take out insurance policies on their employees with out their knowledge. Walmart was a big offender until it became known and they quit.

I'd guess corporations that don't offer health insurance yet take out these insurance policies are trying to hedge their bets?

Yeah, pay attention to the people behind the curtain. They have proven they don't have our best interests at heart.

He did another good one quite a few years ago. "The Corporation" It's a long documentary but is full of some eye-opening information.

lol thanks accountable - i am not sure if particularly GE, but he did list about ten "blue chip" companies that contributed heavily to Obama's campaign.

He wasn't necessarily praising Obama or hating on Bush, but he did criticize legislation from Bush and then said there was hope for Obama to change things. But it wasn't his usual Bush is the devil thing.

Although seeing Bush on big screen made me squirm just a bit.

yeah - companies would take out life insurance policies on their employees so that when the employee died they would get millions. these corporations are calling it the dead peasants policies.

Winn Dixie Stores bought life insurance policies on approximately 36,000 of its employees, without their knowledge or consent, and named itself as the policies’ beneficiary. The insurance brokerage firm that placed the policies prepared two memos describing the deceased employees as “Dead Peasants.” These memos were part of the court’s record in a lawsuit in which the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit held that Winn-Dixie’s policies were a sham transaction for federal income tax purposes.

Michael Moore is an entertainer. He tries to make himself out to be some kind of middle class hero by exposing all these issues...but his movies are always really one sided.

What stuff has he done? Correct me if I misunderstand what you're saying but are you saying that it's somehow ironic (or whatever) that he makes a movie a movie about capitalism while making money? Because if you are, there's really nothing ironic or even bad about it. As unfortunate as it is, we live in a capitalist society so it's silly to criticize someone for making some money, at least so long as they're genuine. Even the concept of "sell out" I find silly sometimes.

Like, I believe in anarchism but I can't just drop out of the world or say FUCK CAPITALISM and sit at home all day not contributing anything to a capitalist society.

Anyway, Janie: I would have seen this movie by now had it even come to my stupid racist town, but no, the theatre owner here is a twat and his own biases determine mostly what we get.

But what I'll say about Moore in general, having seen Sicko, Bowling For Columbine and Fahrenheit 9/11: This guy is a manipulator and honestly he's really really good at it. I'm not even talking facts here. As movies, as propaganda, Sicko was completely heart wrenching. Bowling For Columbine was a nasty little masterpiece of manipulating editing but it was entertaining as fuck. Same with Fahrenheit. The guy knows how to get you to get up and DO SOMETHING. He knows how to fuel fires. He's a film maker, pound for pound.

Just need to watch out because he goes in a good direction sometimes but like I said, he's a manipulator.

As far as I can recall, he didn't mention anything about GE. However, he did mention merrill lynch was Obama's largest private contributer. He shys away from lashing out at Obama directly though, which I think diminishes the movie's credibility.

Most of his films are, in most respects, partisan, but in this film, he does go after Democrats, such as Chris Dodd.

I thought the movie was quite good though.

I don't know if I can stomach seeing it. This guy disgusts me. He is so partisan and has typically no sense of honor of presenting things factually that it is sickening. it is ironic that he would rant about capitalism when that is what gave him fame and wealth. The guy must be worth many millions or does he donate most of it??
