Not even sure wtf the movie is about. I'm sure VH1 will grab up broadcasting rights though.

I've actually heard and read really good reviews for it. And everyone said they expected it to be shit, and were very pleasantly surprised. I may just get a wild hair and check it if I'm really bored this weekend.

i'm not giving my money to some rich person making money off a dead person on purpose. $71m. apparently that is what michael jackson is worth (so far) dead.

Just to play devil's advocate...

The backers put up hundreds of millions for the London shows and essentially lost it all through no fault of their own. I don't begrudge them recouping some of it. In a way, you could say Jackson is settling his debt with them.

It's a documentary that was being shot behind the scenes of the prep for the London concerts. There's some rehearsal footage, but that's only a part of the film.

Ok thanks. I did not follow it. All I saw was a bit of an interview with the guitarist. She is damn talented and hot to boot.:D

I am gonna guess they had insurance though. I would never have bet he could pull them all off. Even in a picture of health and younger that was a huge undertaking.

The oldies station here has been playing a ton of Beatles songs lately, almost every 5 songs is a Beatles song, and I was wondering why (keep reading, it related to this thread....right....now). I found out because it has something to do Michael Jackson owning some of the rights to their songs so now whoever took that over is now upping the air time of the Beatles so they can make money off of him.

Now that's what I call stealing from a dead guy.

One little flaw with that: The people that own the rights have ZERO input into how much airtime their songs get. In fact, it's illegal for them to even attempt to influence that.

I programmed radio stations for nearly 20 years. Trust me when I say it's a coincidence. The real reason you hear more Beatles is because of the Beatle Rock Band game being so popular. Radio stations tend to "ride the wave" of what the public is in the mood for. If millions of people are shelling out hundreds of bucks for Beatles stuff, radio will react to that.

That's what I thought too, I looked into it but I swear it has something to do with Michael Jackson. I guess it's not them controlling how much airtime they get but it has something to do with him owning the rights to their songs. I'll have to figure out what exactly it was again.

It's true that he was part owner of the company that owns the publishing rights to the Beatles. But they make their money in lots of other ways. Radio airplay is only a tiny portion. They're making mega-bucks from the Rock-Band stuff.

It just didn't make sense to me because it's all playing on the oldies station. I only knew about it because of the old women I work with and they had no idea there was even a Beatles Rockband. It's probably just Virginia because we really don't tend to do things right. :p

Like I say, radio is just following the trend. The game has made them popular again, so the stations are playing their songs more often.
