MEXICO CITY (AFP) – A 19-year-old Mexican woman was in the ninth day of a hunger strike in front of the British embassy, demanding an invitation to the wedding of Britain's Prince William and Kate Middleton, she told AFP.
"I have been a fan of Lady Di since I was a little girl," said Estibalis Chavez, who set up a tent outside the British embassy in Mexico City. "My mother was also a fan... I promised myself I would go to the next royal wedding."
The young woman said she has been asking for an invitation to the April 29 ceremony at Westminster Abbey but that the embassy has told her it was impossible.
"I intend to fight until the very end... there is no turning back," she said on Thursday, adding that the invitation could make up for a characterization on the BBC Top Gear program of Mexicans as "lazy," "feckless" and "flatulent."

Poor woman. I'm sure she can have my invite. It should be arriving in the post any day now.... :D
 
Bit selfish. It's a wedding, they might be the royal couple but that doesn't make her entitled to an all-access pass to their day. The wedding itself will be televised and then I imagine the rest will private. As it should be.

I'm looking forward to the wedding but I can't imagine feeling entitled to an invite!

She's right, she might just change the stereotype of Mexicans to "barking looney" instead.
 
Royal wedding is a farce! I suggest noone goes, good luck and all, but its a farce... 5 hospitals on tax payers money it will cost. Im all for abolishing the royal family myself, they rank 3rd after legoland for tourist attractions! lol

Where did you get the figure that it's going to cost 5 times a hospital exactly? It seems unlikely that they'd release those kind of figures but if they have, it'd be interesting to see them :) do you have a link?
 
It's going to be costly that's for sure.

I'll probably watch it on tv but I'm not going to go and stand in the street hoping to catch a glimpse of them. I'm only really interested in Kings and Queens that have been dead a hundred years or so :surrender

I noticed something on the invite I'm waiting w/bated breath to receive. Kate's name is spelled with a C. Catherine. Over here they're using Katherine. Our media never gets the little details correct.;)

I hear Sarah isn't invited either. I wonder if her daughters are?

What she's doing is really hard, just get yourself some of the wedding's commemorative items and wish them all the best. Commemorative items for the British royal wedding are already flying off the shelves. You can already get William and Kate themed anything in British stores. One U.K. store hopes royal wedding gnomes can be a big sales item.
