Don't make assumptions and perceptions or try to interpret what people say. Just ask for clarification. I had no idea something was upsetting to anyone.

like when a woman applies to be a firefight, it just doesn't FEEL right, even though there's no reason for it not too. well kinda. strength comes into play. bad example. you know what i mean.
imo, strength is a very good reason to deny a woman's application to be a firefighter. People rely on firefighter's for their lives...if a gung-ho woman is not physical capable of doing the job because she does not have the stature for it than she should not be given the job.

Honestly, as a woman...I am sick of all of the political correctness involved in the whole women vs men thing. Women and men are different. They want different things in life and have different goals. Being different has nothing to do with equality. I really wish people would stop confusing the two!

k..rant over...sorry.

ps...numnum..that second paragraph was not aimed at you personally..it was just a general rant.

Women unfortunatley for them have a high chance of taking maternity leave in their working life.
And thus, and this is especially true of small companies, are viewed often as a liability and a loss.

So, companies either pay them less, or better yet, don't hire them to begin with.

Actually..women have different priorities than men do. Most women want a family at some point and just are not willing to enter into those kind of practices that require them to work 60+ hour weeks. Its not that women cant be lawyers and doctors (some are, obviously)..its that they dont want to commit to a career that will prevent them from having a family. How many female lawyers are there who are able to take 6 months of maternity leave? They have case caseloads that they would have to foist onto someone else (who is probably already overworked with their own load) and they will also need time off when their kids get sick...school meetings etc...It just makes more sense to me that men go out and do those kinds of jobs while women work at jobs that will allow them more freedom to tend to their families.

This opinion brought to you by Cave Woman. :D
;)
Now shut up and bring me a beer. And change the channel while you're up.

umm... i think you misunderstood my post because i think ur agreeing with me. that's why i said it was a bad example because a women's strength, no matter how you look at it, is probably 99% of the time weaker than a man.. generally speaking. men and women WON'T be the same physically ever.. or well for a long long time when the whole world is done cross-breeding and we're all the same race too haha

Yes, I did misunderstand you. Sorry bout that. I thought you meant it was a bad example because there was no real reason not to hire a woman firefighter, even because of the differences in strength. My mistake.

Thanks for clarifying! :thumbup

I agree. My understanding is that there are physical qualification tests for fire fighters. For an unrestricted position, women should have to pass these tests. It might be possible to offer restricted fire fighting related jobs to women who can't pass the physical test but that would be up to the individual department. (I functioned as a volunteer fireman for several years.) As stated in another thread, as technology advances, physical differences between men and women in most cases will be meaningless.
