Couldn't she just have taken the keys for like 6 months?
How long was that investment going to be around whilst he was drinking and teh driving? Not only would he have destroyed his car or someone elses, but he could have killed himself and others. Good call if you ask me.
The article states that the mother believes that her son wasn't the one drinking. If that's true, she sounds like she's punishing him for disobeying her order of no alcohol, and lock the doors, more so than her concern for his safety:
"Hambleton believes her son but has decided mercy isn't the best policy in this case. She says she set two rules when she bought the car at Thanksgiving: No booze, and always keep it locked."
Lawfulness and safety weren't even mentioned. The woman is just pissed off that her son disobeyed her instructions.
Many Kudos to this mom. I would have done the same thing. It will teach this kid a lesson he wont soon forget. All any mother can do is try their best.
Simple enough rules to follow. No matter if he wasnt the one drinking. It was a rule. No alcohol should have been in his car anyways.
Ive lied to my mom plenty of times and she's believed me before. I read the article dood.
My point was just that if she does believe her son and still punishes him, it's because he disregarded her rules.
Ah, I see. Sorry, Im a few excederin tablets short of a medicine cabinet sometimes.

Actually since this isnt in the debate section. People arent really trying to debate anything..at least I'm not. I was just commenting on the article itself. What people are trying to debate here is whether the mother could have taught her son the same lesson without selling the car.
Could she? I believe she could have.

So my original comment stands. ...many kudos to the mom and all that other stuff
Ok then Miss Pedantic, how about just a simple question?
Could she have taught the same lesson without selling the car?
Again I choose not to answer you...especially after calling me basically narrow minded all because I made a comment on the article.Ok then Miss Pedantic, how about just a simple question?

"Narrow focus on things." is just one def. of it. It all depends on the way you take itNarrow minded? Do you know what Pedantic means? It has nothing to do with being narrow minded.
