Manchester United 1-0 Bursaspor

First game sans Rooney and not really a lot learned. It was a 'it'll do' performance, and we'll learn a lot more in the coming weeks. As for the game, it wasn't the best, we got the goal after 7 minutes from Nani with a spectacular drive and throughout the game it was mainly about half chances. They didn't really ever test Tomasz Kuszack in our goal so overall it was comfortable yet unspectacular.

Stoke City 1-2 Manchester United

A hard earned win in deepest darkest, and indeed coldest, East Midlands. We were superb in the first half and got a deserved lead in the 26th minute from Javier Hernandez. Gary Neville should have been sent off late in the first half but then again it's Stoke, fuck them. We sat back a lot in the second half and nearly paid the price for it. Tuncay cut inside after a clumbsy Scholes pass and curled it into the top corner and it seemed as though points were dropped again and it was a 7 point gap. But then Javier Hernandez struck late with a poachers goal to win us the points. Hard earned if nothing else.

Man Of The Match : Javier Hernandez.

Manchester United 3-2 Wolves

A contrasting game in the fifth round of the Carling Cup. The first half was poor with few chances created but the second half more than made up for it with 5 goals and plenty of attacking football. The breakthrough eventually came when Bebe's deflected cross just about crossed the line, they hit back when George Elokobi headed a corner in. The lead was restored with 20 minutes to go when Ji Sung Park intelligently hit it back across the goalkeeper after a Macheda touch but Wolves hit back again when Kevin Foley equalised, and when it looked as though extra time was forthcoming Javier Hernandez finished superbly in the 90th minute to send us through to the Carling Cup quarter finals for the third season running. In truth Wolves played well enough to perhaps justify winning the game but in the end perhaps lacked some quality to win it.

Man Of The Match : Ji Sung Park

I'll address the controversy later. But the first goal came from Vidic after a Nani free kick was headed in my the Serb. Now the second goal.

What I think happened was the referee has saw Nani go down to claim a penalty. Now the referee having seen nothing has played on. But the linesman has seen Nani handle the ball (accidentally) and waved for a free kick. But as the ref hasn't given a free kick he assumes play on. Nani has got the ball and kicked it in, goal given. But the linesman, having seen a handball gives a freekick. And having seen this flag the ref goes and consults him, but the problem here is the ref can't give what he hasn't seen. So he can't disallow the goal. Goal given. But this is Mark Clattenburg we are discussing. On another day I might be bothered to argue Tottenham's case, but as I can't be bothered. it stands. That said, excellent win, Spurs came and attakced us which is refreshing.

Man Of The Match : Nani

To be fair, the first time wasn't his decision to give ;)

Although I'd love to see him kicked out of the Premier League , he is a poor official.

A very good away win in the Champions League. For the first half hour they got pressure on us while we struggled to get to grips with the game, but when we did it turned out to be a very comfortable night's work. The goal came early in the second half when Darren Fletcher controlled a pass and hit the ball into the bottom corner. From then on it was only a matter of time and Obertan finished well to wrap the game up. Bebe added a third after a through ball from Scholes. They had chances but it was mostly easy saves from Edwin Van Der Sar. All but qualified now, a point or better at Ibrox in three weeks, which I fully expect us to get, will see us through.

Lesson one : Go out, play really poorly in the first half and yet go in at half time with a lead.

Pass

Lesson two : Suffer a setback from an equaliser only going to to grab a very late winner to win the game and close the gap at the top to two points.

Pass.

Yep, Ji Sung Park's late goal in the first half gave us a lead going into half time after a poor first half performance. Then we were a bit better in the second half until Sylvain Ebanks Blake equalised. Just as it seemed another two points were dropped we managed yet again to pull it out of the bag when Ji Sung Park cut in from the wing and after turning a couple of defenders fired it into the near corner. Not the best performance in the world but the points were won nevertheless.

Man Of The Match : Ji Sung Park.

Poor derby in truth with very little to write home about. They were the better side in an awful first half and in a not much better second we shaded it. I only really remember Van Der Sar making a great save from Tevez in the first half and Berbatov's overhead kick was saved by hart in the second, and pretty much nothing else happened. I think we'll be happier with that draw in truth and we are at least still undefeated.

Man Of The Match : Darren Fletcher.

Imho, it wasn't the poorest 0-0 draw I've seen. I would have named Vidic man of the match on that match.

City may as well have dug themselves trenches for about 80% of the second half.

What I'm more happy about is the side is not leaking goals to make it hard for themselves (touches wood) rather than the lack of scoring chances. I'm disappointed Hernandez didn't come on sooner too.
