Man sues IBM over firing, says he's an Internet addict

A man who was fired by IBM for visiting an adult chat room at work is suing the company for $5 million, claiming he is an Internet addict who deserves treatment and sympathy rather than dismissal.James Pacenza, 58, of Montgomery, says he visits chat rooms to treat traumatic stress incurred in 1969 when he saw his best friend killed during an Army patrol in Vietnam.
In papers filed in federal court in White Plains, Pacenza said the stress caused him to become "a sex addict, and with the development of the Internet, an Internet addict." He claimed protection under the American with Disabilities Act.

Well, yet another one tries to come up with a 'loophole' for their own self-satisfaction needs!!!

What a load of rubbish!

Funny how he never mentioned before his dismissal, that he was addicted to sex sites on the internet and only did mention it, at the point of being caught out and the company took steps.

Everyone (including that bloke), knows that it is a violation of company rules, to use the internet for personal use in the work place.

Those rules are there for security reasons to protect the data etc, that companies have on their system. When employees start digging into the internet for their own purposes, this can jeapordise a company's data etc.

I really hope that no court falls for his pathetic excuse.

He got caught, was thoroughly embarrassed, so he came up with that tripe and thinks it will stick?

Surely the courts will see through him?

When I have time to go into the chatroom on here or the forum yes, it can be addictive - it is still up to me if I continue for the whole night and lose sleep now and then because of it. I make that decision, no-one forces me to do it in the room or forum.

At the end of the day, as others have said - we are all responsible for our own actions, no-one forces us.

Will-power, that's what he needed and had none!

Someone really needs to tell him to get a life. Anyway, what did he do before computers then, if this was started from 1969, to fulfill his sexual desires?
