A week ago I took out a newspaper ad looking for a part time nanny/baby sitter. I have this complete paranoia about kidnappers, so instead of using my address or phone number to receive replies, I got a post office box. I just went and picked up the responses for the first time. There were 7, and 3 of them are from guys. I'm not trying to be sexist or form any judgements, just asking for opinions. I didn't even consider the possibility of hiring a male. I keep thinking, "what kind of 20 something guy wants to be a babysitter?

Exactly and if you have a male that may be a good role model for your son. I dunno if they have refrences I wouldnt rule them out because they are a guy

i would say this: there are alot more guys in the education field than there used to be.. each year, i see more guys in classes and conferences than the previous year. they may be looking for experience and something to add to their resume. i would definitely ask them what their background and such is, but i dont think its really strange, especially for you having a son- i think it could be a good match!

A lot of guys are great with kids.

I have 3 kids (teenagers to toddlers) and I've always had my children be cared for by both sexes. I think men have a lot of great qualities that they can pass on to children and so do women. Neither sex has it 'all'.

I love it when my kids have male teachers as well as female teachers. I think it is very important for my kids to have relationships with men that are of strong male character and at the same time loving, respectful, and firmly soft spoken. The more, the better, as it reinforces what they should model as they grow into real men or to expect from real men.

I like my kids to be watched by strong hard working women that are not ruled by materialism and sex appeal, that truly know that a woman's worth comes from who she is on the inside and knows that a real man, the type of man she wants is going to be attracted to that.

Oh my I'm rambling.

Anyway, my point is that there are a lot of men that love kids and are wonderful with them. Children flock to my teenage son and he is just so great with kids, babies, etc. Our youth paster is a guy and he is just wonderful with the kids as well. My kids have had some really great male teachers.

Good advice from all of you. Thanks. I'll call them all, and if they can pass the phone test, I'll check them out in person.
And Grace- I've come to really enjoy your ramblings. Please never stop.

Thank God someone does not mind my ramblings. I swear I start out responding to someone's post and then next thing I know I realize that I am talking to myself and everyone has left the room. ROFL! :D

Depends on each person. My mother has worked at a daycare for a long time now and they even have a male teacher there. I have noticed though that its usually the older kids who respond better to males then the younger just from personal experience. There are exceptions though and you really can't tell until they meet the person. I know a few of my friends whom I would have no problem letting them watch my kids if I had any. I personally love kids and it was never really a issue at church or at family gatherings when I was watching them.

I've done baby sitting for friends, I quite good at if I do say so myself. I can change a nappy and seem to have the knack of keeping kids happy. Why shouldn't men be good with kids as well? Would you have a problem if you went to get your car fixed and the mechanic was female? Sounds a bit sexist to me.:dunno
