I am not sure about you guys but here there are a few things immune from Bankruptcy now..

The IRS ( CRA in Canada or any government bill ) is immune and can no longer be excluded as well as student loans.

Dove - I can't even begin to imagine what you are going through right now. There isn't a single piece of advice that I could give you right now that would make it any better. Thankfully, you still have your child. I know sometimes it may be hard to remain positive for someone else when you find it hard to remain positive yourself. Thanks! Given that we are but humans to be tempted to do an eye for eye, I just have to wish him well! But oh believe me I wanted to! I told him actually I forgive him! Does not mean I will get back together with him of course but just for my peace too so I can move on! I do believe though that what goes around, comes around! Just don't wanna wish him ill as I know that may also come back to me.

I don't think any amount of words could possibly console you after dealing with something like this. The only thing I can tell you is to keep your head up, stay strong for your son, and things WILL get better with time.

No one should have to endure such a tragedy.

I have sought a bankruptcy Atty for all these! That's my next goal! It's not cheap though to file for BK

Yup! Totally agree with you guys thats why is much more disheartening!

California is a conjugal property state! Be it your name is on your ex's debts or not- the creditors can run after you and sue you! I received one letter already from a bank who sued me for my ex's credit cards hence contacted a BK Atty! BK is my only way out at this point!

As with the IRS the only thing I can do is file for Innocent Spouse which I have done so! It said tho they can't decrease the amount due but will offer some form of relief! So idk what relief is that! Still waiting....

As some of you are aware- my son and I were nearly killed by my ex due to fatal domestic violence! We underwent a gruesome court trial for a year! My son and I testified against him per request by the State to persecute my ex! He was placed in prison for felony charges! My ex had indebted us for big amount of money including getting a big 2nd mortgage loan from our home back in IL! I had no clue this was going on as I trusted him to take care of the finances!

When we moved to Cali- we bought a 3600 sq ft home with mountain scenic views! I lost this home too given the bank illegally foreclosed on me even if the loan modification had been approved and payments done on the loan! I hired an atty but the bank won and for me to appeal- i needed about $10K- hence i gave up on our home! The bank gave us very little time to get out of the house hence all our belongings including appliances, furnitures, TVs, Fridge etc etc were all placed on pods storage hurriedly!

Little did I know too that after he went to prison all debts were gonna be placed on me and his misfiling of 2007 taxes brought about $4K in IRS charges. IRS placed a lien on my bank account last year and took out every single cent off my savings and checking! I struggled hard to cope with it financially! With the holding of my bank account- the monthly storage fees were placed on hold and accumulated interests and surcharges! I was able to cope paying every month to refrain from the storage containers to be auctioned out! Despite the payments tho' -big balance keeps on accruing interests and finally the company placed a lien on the account!

Last week I received the notice for the lien! Given they wanted full payment, I needed to come up with money to claim our stuffs! Being distraught in making means to produce the money, the due date totally slipped my mind! Yesterday when I was ready to pay- I was too late for 2 hours as they've already auctioned out our stuffs! Hence we've lost everything except what we have left in the apartment- sofa and bed! What we have worked hard for about 16 years in the States all gone in a matter of seconds

Oww, that sucks big time, I do hope they see sense in what they are doing, and let you pay off in instalments

You are right that it's hard for me to be positive for my son if I am in this situation myself hence my struggles and of course am not perfect! thanks for the prayers! Need those

Aye!! I've given up on that faith as I shared to you. But given the many trials I've surpassed- I remained to be blessed by many things daily and people I meet everyday including you! Can't surpass to look at those positive points! A lot of people whom I never expected have helped me hence i needed to share what was bestowed on me to others! Given too that He's leading me, all I can do is Trust Him! It's not easy eh glad to be of help DD!

I've had wage garnishments/ installments per month already set up whilst the pending status from IRS! They're sure very fast to collect money but Sloooow to process relief

I feel the same way! I've struggled to accept it. But every little thing that i will fight for with IRS or creditors, I would needy atty's help. Of course those don't cost cheap! Hence I just learned to live it day per day. I liked that quote you posted one time on taking it one day at a time quote/poem! That is perfect for me to keep in mind
