bah. I can never anticipate your responses.

Anyway, I'm just trying to figure out why everyone asks me random questions about any and all cars.

Funny you should ask James. I saw a thread at MF with a post I wanted to know if it was true or not and I swear to Christ I thought to myself, I bet SI knows if this is true or not. :funnah I'm not kidding.

.....anyway, with that said, have you ever heard of the insulation under the hood on a Stang having the plastic clips that hold the insulation on, melt at a specific temp if there is an engine fire so the insulation falls on the engine to smother the flames? :D
Sorry Ver, I hope it's OK to put this link, I just want peeps to see this, LOL

Jiggy's response was correct. It's there to fall onto and suppress the fire if one starts under your hood.

edit: i've seen what it does. a Guy on hondaswap had a loose starter that caused a spark and burnt his valve cover, injectors and fuel rail. eventually the blanket fell on it and put the fire out.

edit 2: those are on all cars, not just mustangs.

See, I knew you'd know....even if I don't believe it, but if you say so, then I guess I better believe it. :D

By the way, if a fire started in my engine comparment, I'd have the hood open and blowing on it profusely screaming, HELP between blows .....probably making the flames bigger. So my fire blanket wouldn't work right, LOL. :laughing

Why don't you believe it? Call up Ford and ask them what it's for.
