" When you hear a lie many times over a long period of time, you often are “brainwashed” so that it becomes “truth” in your mind. Many individuals and companies put out “facts”—sometimes intentionally, sometimes through ignorance--to convince you that certain lies are truth. This is often the case with money issues. Financial firms, mortgage companies, employers, the media, and many others repeat “conventional wisdom” that may be absolutely untrue and self-serving. "

I personally feel is that a LIE for a good cause is OKAY, but TRUTH is always preferable.

What you all believe ?? What is your philosophy for the same ?

I agree with you. It also depends on what the lie is. I don’t think you can get a black and white answer.

There are situations where telling the truth is far more destructive than telling a lie.

An example of which would be...?

If you need to lie to prevent "destruction" then you have probably not been honest to begin with. If the truth always be told then the people you effect are able to make logical decisions along the way, and there never should be and event where a lie is necessary to fit what you've said above.

I've had a personal experience where my father had to lie to me. I am thankful that he did not tell me the truth at that moment because I was emotionally weak at that time in my life. He told me the truth later in my life when I had grown as a person and was able to handle it. Some lies are beneficial, some aren’t. Like I said previously, I don’t think we can get a black and white answer.

No matter what the circumtances, lies are never good. Lies are motivated by fear, and fear keeps you in bondage.

Bondage makes Matt happy. Haha, no. So, if your mom was shot in the face by you cousin, you'd rather know who really did shoot him. If you had a girlfriend and she cheated on you, you'd rather know? Lies are okay sometimes. Like when they get me out of trouble. :D

Which leads to you getting into trouble.

I think that some lies are ok if they are going to prevent bad stuff. For instance telling someone the're ugly is pointless, even if it is true and will only hurt their feelings. Unfortunately I'm one of these people who are just crap when it comes to lying and am brutally honest, whatever the consequences.:(

If someone comes up to you and asks, "Do you like my new haircut?" and they seem really excited about it, what would be your motivation to call it ugly, even if you truly believed it was the most disgusting haircut you've ever seen?
White lies are sometimes necessary to keep the peace.

In situations where I feel it would upset someone if I lied, I usually chose not to express my opinion. Why should I disregard my own dignity to please another persons attempt to get a compliment?

I was just joking. If you wanna get on that subject, if you don't get caught, you won't get into trouble. Lying is ok on certain things. Like the others have been saying, if somebody asks if you like the new haircut they got, it's rude to just tell the truth and say, "Nope, it's fucking ugly". But I really don't base my choice off of others, so this thread won't really change my style.

There is never an excuse or good reason to lie.. NEVER

If someone asks you if you like something, you should not have to lie.. Its all in how you present the truth.

If I ask for your opinion.. its my choice to take it,, I dont like what you say.. thats my problem, and next time I may not ask you.. But if you lie to me.. you are not doing me any favors.

Ok, but some of you people who think it's not ok to lie, EVER, NEVER, NOT AT ALL, you are probably just contradicting yourselves. We teach our children lies every single day, even if it's a different reason, it's still a LIE.

-Easter Bunny. Eggs don't even come from bloody rabbits!!!
-Santa
-The Tooth Fairy

Think before you speak. Or in this case, type.

HAHA.. Good point.. BUT, lets not forget that though they may be an exageration, They are not altogether lie either, ( yes a lie in their current presentation) All those stories ( cept maybe easter eggs) do have a history and a story behind them, Yes there was a santa, And yes there was a tooth fairy.

But Fair, I stand corrected, I cant justify those types of lie's, It is just what we as parents do. But I still don't justify lying .. and yeah I get where that sounds hypocritical.
