JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — There was a lot of talk about Kansas as a Missouri Senate committee opened debate on proposals to cut the state’s income tax.

Supporters of the measures said Wednesday that Missouri must lower income taxes to compete against a Kansas income tax cut that took effect this month. They fear businesses and residents will move to Kansas if Missouri fails to cut taxes.

But skeptics noted that Kansas now is projected to have a sizable budget hole because of the tax cuts.

The Missouri Senate panel heard testimony on three proposals. One would cut taxes only for businesses. Another would cut taxes for businesses and individuals. A third plan would offset part of the income tax cuts by raising the sales tax and cigarette tax.

This goes to support why I am highly in favor of lowering the federal taxes a substantial amount and shifting it over to the states.

There are no plans to flock to Kansas...it is mainly aimed more at business, but it does go to show that tax alone can determine whether or not you set up shop at a given location.

bringing my family with me we are going to buy an above middle class home and park all of our cars in the yard and in the street on both sides
and while half of us are sleeping the other half will be celebrating with fireworks and tequila I hope the neighbors pay their taxes so my kids can get
free medical and change the schools to spend more time learning about us and less time learning about yall. Hey who pays for those schools, glad I don't.
Now I can get a nice truck with nice rims and loud mufflers rooom rooommm . hey neighbor look at all my toys how come you drive that old plain car? Your lazy.

I'd love to see the vast majority of federal funds to states stop, but Washington is too [can't think of a good word] to ever release their control of state legislatures. And state politicians are too afraid of pissing off constituents.

Come to Texas. We don't have income tax, but we do have a revenue surplus.

Good points....its "think our way" or do not receive govt funding this giving the federal govt the leverage they need.
Last time I was in texas it was pretty hot...will take more of an enticement to get me to go there again.;)

Then better yet, get your legislators to look at our model. It would do the country good to spread good sense around.

guess I win the bet.

Your state benefited greatly from the oil industry which not all states enjoy.
Ohio might get some benefit from natural gas....but that appears several years off.

Thanks! We're just starting the second semester of school. Seniors are just finishing Government and starting Economics, or vice versa. I teach both. I can use this to tie them together, no matter which they learned first. Should make for a good discussion.
