A few humorous jokes in the thread will not affect the quality of information she gets from another woman that has experience with low hormone BC. And sometimes talking to someone who has experienced side effects first hand is much better than Google or talking to your pharmacist.
Really Tim?......

I've taken that pill, hope you do alright on it.

Have you tried the depo shot? Alot of my friends swear by it, it just didn't work very well for me.

No, I've only ever used the pill, I like to be able to control if I get my period or not and all the other options, such as depo and the ring etc scare me a little :p

You're on a pill and they didn't tell you what to expect?

With the two types of pill I've been on, the doctor briefly tells me the main side effects then told me to read the instructions.

Today I got a prescription for a new type of pill because my old one made me far too emotional just before I got my period.

So I have a prescription for a low dose pill called Meliane.

Just wondering if any of you girls know this pill and how you find it?

No I'm on a pill called Micronor which is a mini-pill. I was on Cilest (which is a combined pill) but I had so many side effects on it, from 3 weeks of bleeding to migranes to mood swings. The one I'm on now is a lot better, I've had no side effects at all.

I don't know much about the mini pill, but isn't it recommended to use another form of contraceptive with it as its not as safe?

Im on the depo and i definitely swear by it!! Been on it 6 years and i havent had a period, pms, cramps, NOTHING in those 6 years!! No menstral means no ovulation, no ovulation means no egg, no egg means cant get preggers!!

Alot of people try it and quit after the 1st 3 months cause it wasnt for them. Well how does one know!? You only get an injection every 3 months and if you quit after just one shot, you dont give your body enough time to get use to it and for it to really work!

I give myself the shots. Its quick and easy. An i definitely trust it over anything else because i know its going directly into my system.

Made me bleed for three months, otherwise I would still be taking it!

Did that happen to you at all?

No periods, that's amazing!!!

I really dont remember. I started taking it after i had Jace, and i was already bleeding alot anyway after pregnancy. But thats why alot of people stop taking it. And like i said, you have to give your body enough time to get use to it and 3 months, one injection, just isnt enough!

But yeah, NO periods and PMS is amazing!! The only drawback for me is low libido, but i'll take that over no periods/PMS!! LoL. Libido is still there, and about 2 weeks after injection, theres a huge spike in it.

And i noticed a couple people said they were on ortho tri cyclen lo.....both me and my sister (and a few women in my drs office) got pregnant on that. Just sayin :)

Oh wow I thought you still got your periods on the shots! If this pill doesn't work out for me I will certainly look into that!

Well like Ravana said, she had a menstral 3 months, and alot of people do in the beginning (i just dont remember if i did or not) if its not that long, its just a really heavy one. But once your bidy gets use to it, then its good kwim? But the effects are difderent for everyone. It says you'll gain up to 10lbs on it, but i never did. It all happens in thise first few months

While on it, theres worry with bone density and calcium problems but but my dr said
dont start monitoring that till you've been on it for at least 11 yrs. But if youve kept a good amount of calcium in your diet, it shouldnt be that big of a problen

The ring scares me, I just don't feel like it's effective enough.

It's very effective if you use it the way they tell you.

I had used it for 2 years before I had my son. I like that if you want to get pregnant you can decide and you are able to within a week.

I used it for a year after I had my son but since I don't care if I get pregnant now I have stopped using it.

Also it made my periods very regular and light. I could almost time it to when it started to the hour.

There are some women who keep putting in a new ring right after they take out the old one to skip periods.. I don't know if that works because I never did that.

The reason my dr. put me on it was to regulate my periods and such after I had a miscarriage.

No it's as safe as any other type of pill providing you follow the instructions. The first 7 days, you have to use another form of contraception as well, but after that it is fully working. If I miss a pill, then I have to use another form of contraception for 7 days. That was also the same advice for when I was on the combined pill.
The only other time when extra contraception is needed is if I forgot to take the pill within the time limit or if I was on certain medicines (eg antibiotics) or if I vomited or had diarrhoea after taking it. But again, that was the advice for the combined pill too.

The only real difference is the chemical in it (it doesn't stop ovulation, it'll just make the vagina fluids thicker so sperm can't reach an egg and it changes the lining of the uterus so any egg cannot develop), you take it continually (you don't stop taking the pill to have a period, periods just come when they like) and if you forget to take it at the usual time then you only have 3 hours to take it (with the combined pill, you have 12 hours to take it but the mini pill releases an egg, the pill has to keep being taken for it to work).

As the pill releases an egg, it can result in pregnancy but it's very rare. The leaflet I got with it, says if taken correctly it's 99.9% effective. So of course, that means 1 in 1,000 women will get pregnant whilst on micronor. And if I suspect I am pregnant, I have to immediately go to the doctor because micronor affects pregnancy and can lead to an increased risk of ectopic pregnancy (due to the nature of the pill).

Sorry for how long that is. I didn't expect it to be an essay :surrender

No, that was very interesting! Thanks for that :)
It actually sounds pretty much exactly the same as the combined pill except the time in which to take it, but I always take my pill at the same time or within the hour so no real issue for me.

They are quite similar and I noticed that the most of side effects were the same too, though the combined pill had more possible side effects than the mini-pill does. The combined pill and the mini-pill both have Progestogen but the combined pill also has Estrogen. I don't get on with Estrogen (it's what caused all my side effects when I was on the combined pill and probably why I had such bad morning sickness too when I was pregnant).

I'm quite well versed with the types of pill that are in the UK at the moment. Everytime I go to the doctor he tries to get me to have the coil (Intrauterine device (IUD)) but it scares me a bit, especially after my friend had a horrific time getting it inserted and then she got told 2 months later that the nurse didn't insert it right and she could be pregnant :willy_nilly:
