I don't know much about the mini pill, but isn't it recommended to use another form of contraceptive with it as its not as safe?
No it's as safe as any other type of pill providing you follow the instructions. The first 7 days, you have to use another form of contraception as well, but after that it is fully working. If I miss a pill, then I have to use another form of contraception for 7 days. That was also the same advice for when I was on the combined pill.
The only other time when extra contraception is needed is if I forgot to take the pill within the time limit or if I was on certain medicines (eg antibiotics) or if I vomited or had diarrhoea after taking it. But again, that was the advice for the combined pill too.
The only real difference is the chemical in it (it doesn't stop ovulation, it'll just make the vagina fluids thicker so sperm can't reach an egg and it changes the lining of the uterus so any egg cannot develop), you take it continually (you don't stop taking the pill to have a period, periods just come when they like) and if you forget to take it at the usual time then you only have 3 hours to take it (with the combined pill, you have 12 hours to take it but the mini pill releases an egg, the pill has to keep being taken for it to work).
As the pill releases an egg, it can result in pregnancy but it's very rare. The leaflet I got with it, says if taken correctly it's 99.9% effective. So of course, that means 1 in 1,000 women will get pregnant whilst on micronor. And if I suspect I am pregnant, I have to immediately go to the doctor because micronor affects pregnancy and can lead to an increased risk of ectopic pregnancy (due to the nature of the pill).
Sorry for how long that is. I didn't expect it to be an essay :surrender
