I bought my mom the knock off from Mr. Coffee (which is somehow also made from Keurig). She loves it. It's quick and easy, and she's the only one that drinks coffee (I use it to make hot chocolate and the like).

And yeah, like NukingFuts said--they make the "my K-cup" thing where you can buy and use whatever loose coffee you like and use that instead of the pre-packaged cups.

Yes, I also have the 'My K-Cup'. I use it once in awhile but I like to just pop in the regular K-Cup. I can be lazy I guess. :D

Gone thru several Mr Coffee coffeemakers over the years.

Yes, I'm sure--but this is a "high end" Mr. Coffee. And it's not the regular coffee maker with a pot--it's just like a Keurig and is made/endorsed (or something) by Keurig itself--it was just cheaper than an actual Keurig. We've had this for a year or two now and it's working just like it's brand new.

I got the real Keurig and I dig it.

Had it for a year now. I love being able to brew a cup in 20 seconds and if I have people over, they can brew whatever they want. Hot chocolate, sweet tea, iced coffee, cinnamon bun flavored coffee, Starbucks....or one of the other 20 flavors I have.

Yah I will keep my Kuerig..

Best place to buy the coffee cups are Bed Bath and Beyond or Costco and get the 96 packs..

It comes out to about $0.67 cents a cup of coffee..
Which here means I would be spending a minimum of 200 bucks a month on coffee.
I kinda like my Folgers and Maxwell house..so it would have both them beat to start with.
I would also find it more work to make a cup at a time...rather than just make a pot and get it over with.

I think it would be great for a one to two cup a day guy from what I am gathering...but IMO the benefits start to decline after in costs...and labor of always making new cups.
I would always be making coffee taking the little deals out putting in another one ,,water...to me that is as much labor as making a pot.
I would tire of one quickly in a day
Akin to mowing the yard and putting in a little gas every lap...no thanks..I will just fill the tank lol

I just ran the math fred.
2 pots a day
24 cups
30 days
720 cups a month
67 cents a shot
My coffee expense for a month would be 482 bucks
Not 200 i had missed a key somewhere.

We go through 2 pots minimum here a day.
I think you drink alot of coffee as well.

One of the ladies I work w/ drinks coffee all day long but she says having a Keurig actually saves her b/c she doesn't have half pots of coffee getting thrown away.

Me, I average about 4 - 5 cups a day (2 when I wake up and then 2 - 3 at work). If I ever have leftover coffee at the house I put it in the pitcher in the fridge and use it later to make homemade sugar-free frappucinos.

Actually, you'd think that. But, all you do is lift up the handle, drop the K cup in, and close it. Then push the button. When it's done, just take the K cup out and chunk it. If you want another cup a few minutes later, drop another one in and hit the button. It will hold 2 gallons of water. (I believe) and will make a significant amount of coffee/tea/hot chocolate. I drink 3-6 cups a day when i'm at home on my off days. Huge plus on the low maintenance side, as well. It only needs to be cleaned once a month or so, and it's incredibly easy because of the temperature of the water you run through it. I bought different flavors of K cups from different places, and i've still got a stockpile left i'm going through. I've got a friend that's found a website that sells them in bulk and ships to your door for half the cost of what it would be for the same amount.I personally think it's a great investment. it's saved me money and i'm an avid coffee drinker.

First came into contact with one when visiting an office in Vermont. They had one hard piped into the Keurig. Had no clue what it was. I believe Green Mountain Coffee started the trend with this type of machine, thus it was real popular up in Vermont to begin with.

Ended up buying one. Love it. Two problems.

1. I drink more coffee now because it's quick and easy, and every cup is fresh like from a brand new pot (at the home)

2. If you're on well water, you should clean the machine every annually, and then there still isn't promises that the machine will degrade to the point to where it won't work over years.

That said, well water will do the same to steam whole house dehumidifiers and tankless water heaters, and both those items should be cleaned annually depending on the water source.

Have you considered adding a filter to your water system? We will be using filtered water in the Keurig if we get one.

Sorry Fred, I should of mentioned when we bought the house, we could tell that the water was hard, and installed a decent softner/filter system for the house. Still, if I don't clean that Kuerig every year, I will get a problem.

We are on a county system. When we moved here 20 years ago we had a real issue with bluing in the porcelain and ruining clothes. It is better now but my neighbors on well still have issues. I can imagine cleaning the Keurig once a year is a good idea.

Like I said, I still have a regular coffee maker too and use it often and I still buy coffee out. For me, I use the Keurig if I want a quick cup without the bother of making a full pot. I love it and I think it's a great invention.

Anyone see the fancy ones they have out now? The Keurig Vue System. You can customize your cup with it.

We did it. Bought the Elite 40. Found it on sale at Kohl's and I had a 25% off coupon on top of the sale price. $85.49 + tax.
