Saw it.

Hate to admit this, but since it was the scene of a suicide (stadium area) I was wondering how long the area has to be sealed off due to a death? KC is playing Carolina, and it was mentioned that the league told Carolina to take their 1pm flight to KC to play the game.

wife and I were talking about this (and why people do what they do) and no one can predict what goes in ones head. it is a total tragedy all around.

I can't remember WHERE I saw the discussion but I remember seeing it years ago...it was talking about how athletes have a high rate of violent crime allegations and convictions and how it could possibly be attributed to the fact that they are awarded for their aggression on the field and can't reconcile that w/ their private lives. Sounds like a cop out to me, but it does raise some interesting questions.

As for the question about it being a crime scene, suicide scenes rarely get held more than a few hours around here. The murder scene, however, is probably still being held. Depends on the agency. We have one agency that will hold a homicide scene for a week easy.

Agreed. And to people on the outside looking in, they have to be going "REALLY??? You had an NFL contract and probably lived a life most of us can only DREAM of and this is what you do???" I guess money really can't buy you happiness.

The suicide of Junior Seau earlier this year spawned a pretty interesting study. His brain was donated to a research facility at one of the colleges. They did this to determine if his long running history of head injuries from playing football had anything to do with his, apparently sudden, suicide. This discussion came up again on the NFL analyst page last night, as more and more are jumping on that whole "Player safety first! You're out for a week or two if you have a concussion" mentality. I, personally, agree with the long running list of former NFL greats and hall of famers that have said "I played a hundred games in my career where I knew that I had a concussion, but I continued on. Knowing that if I walked to that sideline and told them that I had a concussion, it would be a possible career ender." Alex Smith of San Francisco knows this all too well now that he's been replaced after being off the field for two weeks due to an apparent concussion.

To me, being in public safety, and seeing the patterns of suicides...I don't see any connection between someone having repeated head injuries and suicide. So far, the study on Seau's brain has been inconclusive.

This incident will only strengthen the argument of player safety and concussions. As Jovan Belcher also was recently sidelined for a mild concussion for a week. Which...was his only head injury in his career. (College and NFL)

Now we've had another one! Not a player, but an employee. Copycat?

Yeah. Saw that. KC won, which says a lot. I mean, even the fans were doing a can drive today for the "canning" of the head coach. (Which was cancelled, after the incident on Saturday) Worst season in the franchise history.

p.s. Falcons all the way, baby!
