You're not being a disgruntled prick by exercising your rights.

John will tell you that I tend to side of error when it comes to judging police officers who are doing their duty, but the FACT is the police are like any other people in a job profession, being that you have good people who honestly try to do the "right thing" to the best of their ability, and you have those who are nothing more than dinkleberries trudging through their job because it makes them money.

There is however a difference in people who can abuse their power in the position that they have with their job, and with the police, with their "powers", you need to be VERY carful what you say and do because you never know for a fact if you're getting a "good officer" or some dick weed with a badge who has a point to prove because he carries a gun.

I've plain out told a state trooper to either arrest me or let me go one time because he was giving me a hassle at night and he wanted to check my car. I've got nothing to hide, but I also have certain rights which require that the police MUST follow if they are so certain that I'm lying to them. Fact is, most police assume you don't know your rights and are banking on it when they ask you to let them do certain things.

I've got nothing against LEO's and have some good friends who are in law enforcement who come over to my place to shoot all the time, so please don't think I just have a "hard on" against authority, because that is not the case.

I love it know where it's getting to a point where it's illegal to video police officers when they do their job.

My comments are more for the fact that me and John never agree in any threads I have posted in. He will play the card everytime that I young and know nothing. It just gets old quick. Maybe I am ignortant to the fact that I live in Canada where we do not deal with this as much. We tend to be more passive. It is not that I don't give a shit. Its just I see no harm when there is nothing to hide. So if some guy/girl has a gun in there car with a bag of dope is driving around selling it to kids then I guess they have the right to just drive away. Or should you guys just search the cars of kids with there hat sideways with rap thumping in there trunk. I may be "young" in Johns eyes so he can't listen to me. So like I said I am not going to play into the game of "well I think your an idiot" "well so are you" crap.

The biggest problem in America today is an ignorant populace who allows "authority" to violate their most basic human rights.

That's exactly one reason why I'm always on the fence about a class 3 firearms license. You give up your right to home and business searches without a search warrant.

No - you just say some really stupid shit sometimes and I point it out. Lots of middle aged folks just like you out there. I have hopes that being young, you might still be willing to learn.

It just gets old quick.

So do some of your "out there" comments as in this thread.

There are procedures set for the LEO's to follow for a reason. There is probable cause, and there is harrassment. I'm trying to get you to see the difference.

No sense acting all butt-hurt young fella. :p

I highly doubt she singled him out for this. But of course when bad things happen to us that is the way we've been trained to think.
It does suck he was pulled over tho.

It's the Officer's job to do what she did. I don't see the issue. I understand you're a little butt hurt that your son got mother fucked for not having his insurance card, but it's not that big of a deal. Did you get that angry when your wife has yelled at your son in the past? If not, I don't understand why you are now. It's just not that serious, Fred. Don't sweat the petty stuff.

Thanks for the insight on how to be a disgruntled prick. That has crazy opinions about such little trivial things. I am done. Enjoy your day.

Geeze - stop whining already :willy_nilly:

Actually, Darrell is quite informed and wise beyond his years. Nobody said Freds son's rights were violated- as a matter of fact, he should have printed out a proof of insurance document and put it in the car before driving it along with the bill of sale. Our conversation was a sidebar to the increasingly common fishing searches taking place in the United States today.

Unfortunately, there is no law against cops acting like assholes - but there are laws against illegal search and seizure - for some reason you have difficulty grasping that simple concept.

OMG! I think FloriDuh does something right? *falls over*

Before you drive off the car lot, you've already shown that you have insurance coverage in place so that you are issued a temp tag that is then put on the car you've just bought.

Our cops wouldn't pull you over unless that temp tag has expired. I think we have 10 days?? Could be longer, I've forgotten.

Forgive me, but I try to stay clear of Florida. What about a private sale? If I want to sell a car in Florida as a private individual, what are the legal requirements that I'm supposed to require from the buyer before he takes the car off my property? (keep in mind, he dosen't have to drive it off, but can tow it off as well).

Long story short, I'm guessing Fred's son was out of line for not having his paperwork in order which gave the cop reason to pull the car over. Fred's reasoning for being pissed off seems nothing more than the excuse like "well, I wasn't the only going over the speed limit, why did you ticket only me when everyone around me was going over the speed limit". That does not does not negate the fact that you were going over the speed limit.

I understand the law but I do believe the police in this town do take extra delight in hassling young people. I certainly will get his tag next week. I was told by my insurance agent in the past when you trade cars you have a few days where the coverage on the previous vehicle carries over until you can get all your paperwork together. It was a long day for him and me so this was just the cherry on top of a very long day.

They do the same thing in California, though we have 30 days to add the car to our insurance policy... at least that was the case when I bought my last car three years ago.

that all being said... there was no reason for the cop to read Fred's son the riot act for something like this... but it's not surprising to me. Maybe that's just because I've never had a good experience with a cop before, they're always trying to make people respect their authority (insert South Park picture) whether it's warranted or not. I've always been polite, yet I've been treated with nothing but contempt by the officer that pulled me over, on the three occasions that it's happened. I've never gotten a ticket though, because I'm aware of my rights and never let the officer take control of the situation.

As far as never letting them search your vehicle... that should be a no-brainer. Americans are protected against illegal search and seizure, and cops have no right to simply pull someone over and search their vehicle on a fishing expedition. Regardless of whether or not you have something to hide, it doesn't matter... you're giving the police powers that they don't have and quite honestly asking for trouble as far as I'm concerned. Damn, this has gotta be one of the very few things I agree with John about. :24:

He did not get a ticket but she read him the riot act.
So what is the big deal then?

No offense but if there was no tag and no proof of insurance then he should have been given the riot act.

You are lucky IMO that he got off with just being chastised.

Lesson learned.

Oh and for the record I had a friend back ages ago who not only got pulled over for a similar thing but they had 3 other police cars arrive for support, towed the car, damaged the car while towing.
