Steed, I don't think Joe's site will ever be like M/F because he has an entirely different plan. M/F is a commercial site designed to make a profit, which mean their member count relates to more vendors. It doesn't mean there aren't good knowledgeable members, it just means they are in a large crowd of Google mechanics.
Now Joe on the other hand has desided to make MM a tech heaven which is in short supply. His plan, at least for now, is to make the site self sufficient. I think it's an awesome plan and I hope he never commercializes it, but money does have a magnetic pull to it sometimes and nobody could blame him if he does. All I know is I'm going to support Joe the way he has supported us for well over a year now. That's why I say comparing M/F with M/M is like comparing CostCo bulk pack of T-bone steaks to going to the local butcher for a perfect fresh cut T-bone steak........ahhhh, you know what I mean.
