so i went in today for a checkup. First time in over 5 years I've been to the dr and not been sick haha. I got a bunch of bloodwork done and a perscription for Chantix, the new stop smoking pill. We will see if it works. Also I got my thyroid checked and got checked for diabetes. It's strange that I almost want to have a thyroid condition because that would explain my weight gain. Ihave still been dieting but I have been gaining weight since I quit exercising, which to me makes no sense. If I don't have a thyroid condition I will go back in a month to get some weight management medication.

Makes perfect sense to me. If your body was used to eating 1500 calories a day, but burning say 1800 because of the exercise, then you'd lose weight. Now, eat that same 1500 calories, but burn 1500, guess what? No loss. Besides, if you eat the same calorie intake your body will start to just store anything excess. You have to break up the routine. Diet alone will not lose much.

i am not a calorie counter. I do the weight watchers program and use points. I admit I have slacked a little bit but in the past month I have been doing a lot better and have been increasing my intake of veggies by a long shot. Still, I gain, steadily 1-2lbs a week. I am also alwyas tired all the time, even when i did exercise a lot, and my prior use of amphetamines puts me at a high risk..not to mention my mom and grandma on my dads side both have hypothyroidism.

Just some numbers for you...

it takes 3500 calories to gain 1 pound.
So if your base metabolic rate is 2000 calories a day and you increase that to 2500 calories a day, then at the end of one week you would gain 1 pound (7 X 500 = 3500 calories witch = 1 pound). Providing you didn't increase or decrease your physical activity and change your BMR. And it would be an additional 1000 calories a day over your BMR to gain 2 pounds a week...
Since you are gaining while watching your points, I would say that you might have a thyroid problem. And if you do have hypothyroidism hopefully it's a minor problem that they can fix with a few pills.

either way... good luck girl :D

Hope all is OK for you Clare.

Is there no other reason you may be putting weight on at all? Like, are you maybe pregnant at all? Some ppl still have the time of the month and are pregnant without knowing for ages.

To put a more serious slant on things, I thought I would ask, cos before you take those peels, maybe check you're not pregnant first? Hope you don't mind me saying? :)

If you do have hypothyroidism, it's pretty easy to treat. I've had it for over a year now since they removed my thyroid gland. One pill a day and bloodwork every few months (though it's more often now that i'm pregnant).

:homo: (kinda). I have hyperthyrodism (graves disease) but I took a radioactive iodine pill that is suppose to kill my thyroid and Im suppose to be going hypo at any given time.
I hope you dont have a thyroid problem. Its a pain in the ass (or has been for me)
Im glad to hear though that you went to have a check-up and WELCOME BACK woman! :)
