LMAO!! You're such a sour-puse.

The economy is fine. People who say we will "never" get off oil, or at least in the foreseeable future, don't (again) look at the reality of new technology in history.

Look at the advancment we've made in 50 years. I could make a list, but we all get the point.

50 years ago, people would swear that where we are today wouldn't be possible.

It's foolish to think we understand today what we will in 20, 50, or even 100 years from now.

HAHA Even as I wrote it, I knew somebody was going to go with the flying car bit. I just didn't know who.

I didn't say it was always predictable. In fact it usually isn't, simply due to the fact that the future is going to be built on ideas that haven't been had yet. If we could imagine future ideas, we would just do them and make out millions.

We will one day get off of oil, hopefully, but that is AT LEAST a very long time off. Just because it might happen in the future doesn't mean we're not slowly killing ourselves over black gold.

I still want my flying car...

I think you can buy them. I watched a show about a guy building what I think he called the "Sky Car."

Last I watched it, he was taking pre-orders, and trying to get FAA approval.

This was about a year ago though, so it might be ready now. :D

Okay, so your job as a concerned citizen of Earth is to pound people into submission so they fix things on your time table instead of their own time table.

Got it. Good luck with that.

And... Go.

Wait, what?

I'm suggesting that we take immediate measures to at least slow down our addiction to this stuff. It will take a longggg time for this to happen, but its better to start now than later.

That's what I said.

FWIW, I'm with you on taking care of the place. I'm the biggest tree hugger there is for a conservative.

We only part ways when you start talking about governments reaching into our individual lives like that.

The environmental movement is going global, and things are starting to change for the better. (at least here) I think the wisdom of renewable energy is just waiting for it to become cost effective, which it is now doing. As soon as oil is more expensive that solar / hydro / nuclear (I'm talking about political cost on the nukes. Nuclear energy is dirt cheap and super clean, but most libs hate it, so we can't go there yet.), etc... oil will be dropped like the bad habbit it is. And I mean almost instantly.

Have hope my friend. You're a strong voice in a rapidly growing group of aware individuals. It'll get done sooner than you think.

I agree, but its going to be decades before it hits the mass production that is needed to get off of oil, and by then....idk.

Not so long as you think. With solar pay-off coming down to just under seven years now (I think it is), companies are having their new buildings built with it. As payoff comes down to two or three years, oldercompanies are going to start retrofitting as an investment.

There is no reason to believe it will take more than 20 years or so for the VAST majority of oil use to be gone. How many people do you know that drive 20 year old SUV's?

We live our history like it has always been a certain way, but when you look back, these little blips come and go in the blink of an eye.

I can say with some certainty, when you're an old man, bouncing your grandkids on your knee, they'll ask you what the dinosaurs were like when they find out you used to drive an oil powered car. Remember how people thought steam power was the shiz? It'll be the same way. Nobody thought steam would go away, just as nobody thought that the horse and carriage would go away.

Now if we could only get those damn Heizenburg compensators working, we would be in business!!! :D
