$11 million because a group of people were nasty at your sons funeral??? Thats fucked up! Its a slap in the face to people who get far less compensation for much worse things happening to them!

Fuck that. The news said today the group is only worth about $1 Million, so the ruling will bankrupt them and make sure they can't afford to go to other funerals and pull the same shit. I think the ruling is intended to send a message that this type of absolute bullshit won't be tolerated.

I see your point, I just don't think the father deserves $11 million out of it. I think this would be better handled by changing the law so that people who do this shit can be arrested and prosecuted.

Bingoooo. Except i would just increase the distance between the area that they can protest and the funeral procession.

But even if they were prosecuted, they could still be sued right (i.e. OJ)?

I'm all for changing the law, too. But I don't think that would prevent them from being held financially liable to the families.

I think you have a far too big problem with sueing people in the US. If this was a criminal offense, the judge could make compensation part of the package of punishment. I just think $11 million for what happened is a rediculous amount.

$11 million is too much. But understand the man will never see that amount of money. You can't get blood from a turnip. The amount is more to make a point. ;)

the father said in an interview before the lawsuit that any money won will be given to charity to help with other parents/family members that lost loved ones to the war and also donating money to injured veterans fund

Well, it should bankrupt the guy. So he 'should' feel some pain from it. But $11million - the guy doesn't have it.
Why should he be forcefully put into poverty for speaking his mind, even as horrible as it is?

Fred is a scumbag, but It just doesn't sit well with me that a court system is willing to take away everything a person has because their opinions aren't popular. Thats not Democracy.
