I'm sure you won't agree with me, Peter, and I'm not asking you to, but I think it makes more sense to make one person suffer than to possibly let thousands die. They are there for a reason- we didn't just pick them up off the streets and say "Hey, we have an empty cell out at Gitmo. You're going there because we need to fill it."

If they are there for a reason, there should be enough evidence to try them, if not they should be released, that's basic human rights for you.

I don't understand where they go if it's suspended?

They stay in guantanamo? I am against inhumane treatment of guantanamo, but halting the trials seems to just halt the one good aspect Guantanamo has, which is the justice that can be given out, all be it sometimes eventually.
They're going to stay there until they decide where to move them. My understanding is the trials will be resumed at the new location. And you nailed it, WHY STOP THE TRIALS???

The trials have been stopped! There have been trials, several were ongoing when Obama took office. The people (I believe there's 3 of them) are alleged to have helped plan the USS Cole attack. They pled guilty, saying they want to be put to death so they can become martyrs. Then our President suspended all the trials! I can't wrap my head around it, it makes no sense to me.

I don't know. I guess I just believe in the sacrifice of one for the good of many. If that one had to be me, I'd do it. I would absolutely without a doubt sacrifice myself to keep this country safe. If I can be willing to do that, and Donnie can do it and countless others have done it, then I just don't see anything wrong with it.
Better to prevent something than to clean up afterwards. I mean, yeah, sure, it sucks for those who aren't supposed to be there, but how many people are tried and convicted wrongfully? What's the difference? At least these people still have, or should have had, a trial coming up. I don't know. I feel how I feel and can't necessarily put that into words sometimes.

Yeah, that makes no sense to me either. :(

I'm completely with you. I'd rather have a few people locked up for a few years when they were innocent (even if it was me) than have another few thousand people die in a 9/11 or similar attack happen because we released someone who was only suspected, but not proven to be a terrorist.

Funny, thats the sentiments and paranoia of certain countries the USA goes to war with and denounces as bad because of.

How so? And there's a big difference between detaining someone and killing them. Islam extremists just kill anyone they think might pose a threat to them - all we do is detain them.

BS! Somehow I don't see you sitting in jail innocent saying "oh well, it's for the good of the country!" Unbelievable. From a standpoint of the most prominent country who has historically promoted liberty your views are misplaced. And there is absolutely no evidence that rounding up people and not worrying if they are guilty or not will prevent another 9/11. Sounds like you'd be happier living in a police state. :p

Why do you take everything I say and expound it beyond reason? I'm not calling for a police state, and of course I wouldn't want to round up a bunch of people for no good reason! I would be in an outrage if that happened! But that is NOT what is happening with Gitmo.

I believe those military leaders in charge down there know what they are doing, have good intelligence, and are doing their best to serve the American people by protecting them! They wouldn't needlessly throw people in jail without a good reason to! Everyone who is in there is suspected to be (or in other words, probably is) a terrorist! Sure, we'll pick up A FEW PEOPLE who are not actually terrorists and have no intent on harming our country, but that is FAR better than having a FEW THOUSAND Americans die in another terrorist attack!

I'm still awaiting the liberal outrage at the suspension of the trials. We've been hearing for years how inhumane and immoral it is to keep these people in Gitmo. Now the messiah has stopped their trials, thus detaining them longer without a trial. Where's the outraged left wing at???

It just goes to show how blinded everyone is by the media. The media portrayed the stopping of trials as a good thing, so no one has a problem with it. ;)

Well I wouldn't call myself left wing, probably a mix or right, left and middle but yeah, that is really bad, dont really get that at all.
