Do you Believe you could ever be the victim of a Cult?

Serioulsy think about this, Do you think there could ever come, or could have been a point in your life where you may have been susceptible(sp) to becoming part of a cult?

ummm no. But it really depends on what your definition of a cult is. Some people consider Christianity to be a cult...i disagree.

Well yes, many things can be considered a cult, Gangs are a cult, Some religion and churches are a cult, Hell, even david Koresh and Manson was a cult,

the ability to become part of a cult, is to me anyway, The desperation to be a part of something, The need and desire to feel as though you belong.

For many they are obviously most susectable (sp) when they are going through weak points in their life, They become like victims because they are taking unwillingly, Someone sees those weaknesses and targets them, Uses them against the person in a way to capture their trust. Many see hope when they become part of a cult, and are blinded to the truth of things around them.

It is actually easier then we believe to fall victim to such things.

according to some i allready joined a cult ..
mormonism .

well i wont go into reasons why it isnt but then again it may just be true ..

i don't go to church anymore anyways for more reasons i wont explain

but i will give my ideas on cults.

first off i have to say silent pretty much summed up what i'm about to say.

a cult by direct definition is in fact synonymous with the word religion. its functon is very similar.its a congregation of people putting faith in something greater than themselves to instill feelings of humility, and guilt ..but then using the faith and the group to overcome these feelings to make them happier "better" people. to aid them in growing into the lifestyle and person they want to be. or for the promise of other gifts like eternla life and other various exraordnary things.

the word cult in todays society is only associated negativly to the groups that are more or less finacial scams ..or have more nefarious intentions . i.e.: jonestown. and not rub anybody the wrong way but i know cristians that were taught in church that any religion that isnt christianity the way they do it is a cult.

and like silent siad the people victimized by these "cults" are the people down on thier luck with nothing else to turn to .. peope caught up in depression and the dark side of guilt and humilty that are looking to be "saved. from themselves or whatever hell they may think they are doomed to.

what it boils down to is cult is a label. and like other lsbels..even peopls names. you are almost personifying the labeled object ..then as the case with the word cult, or nerd, or jock, or any other negative label.. people hold themmselves higher or the things they belive higher becase they don't want to accept that what they are doing may not be right.

so in keeping wit the question

yes it is possible that i may get involved in a cult. likely? no
it is possible that i may allready have .

but regardless.. the choices i make are my own and the things i choose to beleive are my own .. and even though i have an open mind and am willing to discuss.. i will not tolerate being told what to think. and that what i beleive is wrong ..if it is done in a demeaning and overpoweer way.

sometimes it isnt the message ..its the way its delivered

ok enough rambling :p

I find a lot of people are pulled in because they've never had a heavy thought in their whole life. They hear something heavy, it opens the first door for them, and they fall right in, impressed with the fact that they can think "big", regardless of whats being thought about, or how rediculous it is.

It really depends on the context of the question. The definition of a cult, and the common understanding of the word are different.

In the technically correct way, we are all members of a cult in one way or another (sports, jobs, religion, etc...), but in the common sense understanding, most of us here are too smart to get tangled up with these people.
