If you are 50 or older, you will remember James Arness as Matt Dillon in "Gunsmoke".
As John Wayne was on the big screen...Mr. Arness was on the small screen.
My parents were regular viewers of Gunsmoke.
Thanks for the memories !

Gunsmoke aired on Monday nights right after "Here's Lucy".
I do stand corrected.
I also believe Mr. Arness first feature was a sci-fi flick.

I think he made a short-lived action series playing a detective on NBC.
Not easy transforming from a long running hit series(western) on CBS riding a horse to a modern day,big city detective driving a '75 Chevy Impala.

I haven't hit 50 yet, and I remember watching him on TV with my grandmother.

Without looking online, am I too far off with Festis (sp?) and Miss Kitty as some of the other characters?

Not at all.
Less we forget Dennis Weaver.
No doubt the series may be released on DVD/Blu Ray.
Some of today's biggest stars has gotten their start as guests on Gunsmoke.

I watch Gunsmoke on TVLand every day.

Sometime ago I seen a special on the making of Gunsmoke.
James Arness was very tall.
The director and director of photography had to adjust him and the camera in order to film.
So many out takes.

I liked Gunsmoke but I hated Lucy. Matter of fact I still hate Lucy and a second matter of fact is I liked Bonanza on Sunday after Walt Disney better than Gunsmoke.
