Jack Nicholson or Dustin Hoffman?

Who is the better actor? I say Dustin Hoffman because of the variety of roles he has played. Nicholson always seems to be playing himself but he has some of the great movie lines of all time. What say you?

I don't much care for Nicholson.

According to the Academy, Jack Nicholson. He has two best actor Oscars, and one for best supporting actor.

Personally, I have enjoyed Jack's roles over Hoffman, but they are both very good actors.

the things with jack is that many men envy/respect him for his image of wild playboy rogue

and many women want him for the same reason

acting is often forgotten when it comes to popular appeal

Jack has had some great roles for sure, but I see lately that Hoffman has made some that make me question his ability. but then again so did jack, I will always remember Hoffman in "The Graduate"and Jack as McMurphy in "One flew.."both great actors.

Hoffman roles that are so different. The Graduate, Little Big Man, Tootsie, Rain Man, Hook. That is a range of characters.

Both have starred in some real duds over the years.

Hmmm...I like both, but I've probably seen Nicholson in a lot more films and I pretty much always enjoy his performances, so I'll go w/ him.

I'd take Robert Duvall over both of them, though.

Dustin is well hunky in lots of his films, but so is Jack. Tough call this, but I think Jack has been in the better movies so my vote goes to Jack! x

They are hard to compare. I would take Al Pacino over both, although I too like Robert Duvall a lot........

If I HAD to pick, I prefer Hoffman.

I like Nicholson, his role as the Joker in Tim Burton's Batman was so good. His acting in The Departed was also good. There was also Mars Attack where he had a duel role
