I had a good friend when I was in the Marines that was from Mexico
His mother lived in San Diego. We stayed with her on the weekends, so we would be close to downtown to go hang out. She fixed us scrambled eggs with re-fried beans and salsa for break fast it rocked. First time I met her she spoke to me in Spanish. He laughed at her and and said yeah right, and we laughed really hard. I had the look on my face like, "Huh?????"

He could beat box really good.
Like hard core rave.

Hmmm. Does it bother you that Americans with no Mexican heritage celebrate Cinco de Mayo?

Mexicans do not celebrate Cinco de Mayo, and its true, contrary to popular belief it is not the Mexican Independence day.
It's actually the day Mexico defeated the French in a battle, a battle in defense of the United States. The French were trying to infiltrate from the Mexico/Texas Border, and as America's truest allies, even to this day, Mexico came to the rescue.

but Vietnamese people do eat dogs and semi-full term duck eggs! there is a name for it... but i cant remember it.

but ok, for some odd mexican food?

i know some old regions in and around Mexico people used to breed favor as pet, guard dog and food a breed called Xoloitzcuintli - Ive never had it myself but it is nothing new and it is well known that people in some of the rural cultures around Mexico have had dog as part of their diet in the past.

Lets see...
Goat tongue - This is a very popular food in northern mexico, and we call it Barbacoa! (i can already see some of you gag next time you get your barbacoa tacos LOL)
Cow Stomach Soup - Menudo! It is a staple of Sunday morning breakfast - sort of like ham and eggs for you whiteys, cept it was traditionally given to the father of the family to cure his hang over from the night before LOL
Tripe - Yes, goat tripe or cow tripe seasoned and fried - makes some of the best tacos EVARR!!!
Grasshoppers - Chapulines are a common local delicacy to the south if i recall correctly. You essentially pan roast them and then add them to anything! Tacos, huevos rancheros, quesadillas, mole, etc...
Ant eggs - these are usually put into things like picadillo and offer a nutty taste to this somewhat average plate.

You get an "honorary Mexican stamp of approval" simply for noting that may 5th is NOT the Mexican independence day lol

What does chicken taste like?

It depends... if you kill it, pluck it and gut it yourself, my guess it must be delicious!
but alas, i only remember my gramma killing/prepping and cooking one once...

In mole - AWESOME, you have not lived once until you try it!
In a mexican chicken soup with rice - it is a personal favorite
Roasted with tortillas and a nice avocado salsa - daaaaaang that shit is GOOD!

Now if you ask my daughters... everything is chicken!
Prime rib? nope, chicken!
Sirloin steak? Nope, chicken
Fajita steak? Nope, chicken

So to really answer your question... like everything!

The check is in the mail..

I remember as a young beaner coming to the US for a weekend shopping trip or to visit and always expecting to give some sort of customs agent a bribe in order to make it home with all of our new purchases.
As of the last few years that has changes for the most part but there are still those custom's agents that pretty much ruin it for everyone LOL

IMO the problem is this... there is the custom's station at the border, so you get searched there, and often this is not where the problem happens... most of the guards there are honest and are only searching for illegal contraband.

The shitty part is that about 25-26 miles in there is another customs station, where they are supposed to check for your nationality 9not like anyone is willing to sneak IN to mexico LOL but thats what they are supposed to do there) but given that this station is in the middle of nowhere, and usually, the folks there are old schoolers, they direct you to a searching station for a second time. If you do... you are fucked, because most likely, they will look into your belongings and either confiscate them or ask for a tip in order to let you pass..

This all changed a few years back, with some sort of random checking system where you would approach this customs station and push a button: Green meant you passed... no search, no nothing - Red mean you were getting the full ordeal, vehicle inspection, personal searches, document validation, etc, etc... sort of a shitty approach considering people could be carrying contraband or illegal americans (LOL) and if i got a green light... everything was alright!

As of the last time i went down there, they still had the green/red light system going but about 10ft ahead an officer was picking people "at random" to get the full red-light treatment so it seems the mexican customs agent has adapted LOL

So the TL;DR answer... not so much anymore.
there have been srides made in the govt to stop bribing, but as always there are the bad apples that fuck it up for everyone lol
