One of my professors last semester mentioned that he's met lots of people WITH Mexican heritage that get confused about what Cinco de Mayo is.

I heard Cinco de Mayo isn't even celebrated in Mexico, that it's a holiday pretty much cooked up by American Beer companies to sell more beer. :dunno

Nah, not at all.. i do find it rather odd but most hispanics, unless they are the repressed, bitter kind, seem to take it as some kind of insult.

in true spirit, a Mexican should be more than happy about more people celebrating anything!

Cinco de mayo was the date of a battle for the old Mexican empire I think. Can't remember who they beat. Spain maybe. Spain suck.

Sure

A few facts:
- A green card is not really green... it is PINK!
- If you see one that has this spiffy reflective/copper/mirror/metallic band across the back, it means that person has re-applied as a resident of the US
- The government expects you to know your A-number by heart, though most people dont know it...
- The requirements to your "papers" picture are quite a pain in the ass, people often have to resubmit and reschedule appointments because their picture isnt "perfect".
- Contrary to popular belief becoming a citizen is NOT easy, nor is it cheap - and it shouldnt be but the risks and requirements can sometimes be overwhelming to some...
