.... when you spend a few hours trying to get a decent shot and you fail.

We have a pair of hummingbirds that are obviously feeding some young because they are constantly at the feeder from just after 5am to just before 9 pm. One of the problems is they will not approach the feeder if they know a human is lurking about so I have my gear set up in the house and shoot through the window. I was tempted to move the feeder to a better location until today. When I removed it to give it a cleaning and refill the pair was going nuts looking for it. I want to see the young fighting over the feeder after they start zipping around so I'll leave well enough alone.

I didn't have anything in my favor today and out of about 40 shots these were the best of the worst. I'll keep trying though.

I left the feeder in the shot to give you an idea how small they are.

This could have been nice but even at 1/1600 sec it wasn't fast enough to get him.

Yeah, the second one is great! The third one would have been an awesome photo if the head wasn't cut off. I've taken my share of "would have been" pictures myself. Those are Rufus hummingbirds?

You guys are wayyyyy to kind. None of them are very sharp nor are they showing the true colours of the bird. Because of the poor lighting conditions the iso was set so high it made my head spin. I'm glad you liked 'em though. Thanks

I hate when nature refuses to bend to my will too :)

In all seriousness I think they're great pictures, better than anything I could do that's for certain.

Yes they are. The only one that had potential was the one where I cut off the head.

Realistically all of them were great and had potential so they were taken..

I just think the 3rd one was so ugly you did him a favor and cut off his little head and left what was most beautiful.. :D

Seriously, you did the best you could and enjoyed what you did and most people here liked what you posted.. Keep doing what you do best and we shall keep enjoying.. ;)
